Powermac B&w issue

Alright i have a strange issue with my Powermac B&w. when i turns on i makes the happy apple sound and come to blinking apple/folder. When trying to boot from a hd that has os 9, it wont boot. when trying to boot from a os9 cd it wont boot. when using a os 10.X cd it boots right away. i have tried different hds, cd drivers, ide cables, etc... resetting pram, taking cmos battery out. any ideas? bad motherboard?

so it boots off the OS X CD?

Well, check and see if it is a rev 2 (the chip labelled "402" near the PCI bus), and if not... that could be the problem... or it could be RAM...

if it boots from X... just install it... is there some pressing need for OS 9?

I had some funny problems with my B&W... weird things... could never diagnose it. But I installed X and the thing has an uptime in the 9s now.

The ide bus can handle 2 drives... so if you need 9, try getting it stable on X first, then do a clean install of 9 on another drive.

Also, though it wasn't necessary, I used XPostFacto (I think originally because I wanted it bootable off the firewire... but that's where a lot of the weird problems came from.)

Did you ever reformat the dri

Did you ever reformat the drive through os x? if so go into Disk utility, reformat the drive but make sure that "install os 9 drivers" has a check in its box.

alright

alright thanks guy i will try that. I beleive it is a rev. 1 board as it is a 300mhz blue/white. Ill try different ram, although i was just using this same ram in my beige g3 desktop just fine. my guess is that it is the motherboard. i need to get a different video card too. the reason i dont install osx yet is that im running the system off an old 4mb pci rage card. i need to buy a different card. I bought this g3 off ebay for $10 with no ram/video card.
--its weird that when theres a os9 cd in it wont reconize it, it just blinks the folder/question makr icon, but with is 10 cd it fires up right away

firewire module

try pulling the firewire module on top of the logic board. with regards to hawaiian cruiser, he was the one who told me that, i pulled the firewire module on mine, and it worked afterwards without any problems... i had the same weird effects before!
