I'm not sure which forum to post this in, so, sorry if it's OT.
I have a friend with a wide-carriage Imagewriter that he still uses occasionally for architectural drawings. The system he's using with it is, believe it or not, a MacXL (!) He wants to know how modern of an OS/hardware configuration he could upgrade to, that would still allow him to use that old printer. What I don't know is, did the wide Imagewriter have a separate Chooser extension, or did it use the same one as a regular (non-LQ) Imagewriter? Would it be possible to take a G3 running OS 9 and that extenstion, and a USB-serial adapter, and print from more modern software to the old, wide printer?
Thanks in advance,

Based on my 'survey' of the many Apple Recovery disks I have, the IW 7.01 SW should support the IW Wide. I have no idea whether or not that SW works under OS 9. AFAIK, the file name you need is "ImageWriter 7.01.img", note that there might be an underscore ("_") in there instead of the space.
Hey, if your friend needs a G3, I've got a very nice one I'd swap straight up for an outdated, old, tired MacXL . . .

the dual keyspan ones dont support that printer http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/adapter/docs/swp/aCompatibility.html
dankephoto -- thanks for the info! I snagged that version of the driver and I guess it's all experimentation from here.
And yes, part of my reason for helping him is to get him off that MacXL so he'll give it to ME!
Funnyman -- thanks for the link! I'll try to find one that does work. OR I'll hook him up with a beige G3 (pre-USB) -- it'll still be a stupendous upgrade from the XL.
Interestingly, Belkin claims their DOES work with the Imagewriter series. http://www.belkin.com/support/compatlists/F5U114-MAC.html
