Learn something new everyday...
I received a letter today from the local Police Service, whereby I received a brief but nonetheless all important lesson. Let me first explain in the words of Inspector Bob Farlow:
Section 42(1)(c) of the Ontario Police Services Act states as follows: "The duties of a police officer include, preventing crimes and other offences and providing assistance and encouragement to other persons in their prevention."
Well, boys and girls, it is important to know that, in Ontario anyway, police officers have a responsibility not only to act after the fact, but to take reasonable steps to prevent crime from happening. This would mean that a police officer who willfully permitted a crime to occur, is in violation of the Police Services Act.
Now, I guess my next question goes a little something like this: Are the prevention efforts required by law enforcement, contingent on whom the intended victim may be? Do certain persons and/or organizations get preferential treatment in crime prevention efforts?
Hmm, let's poke away at the dead horse and find out, shall we?

"A stake through the heart"
I was reading an editorial in the local "Sun" paper, and the subject was the end of days for the Federal Liberal government. In no uncertain terms, the editor of this newspaper states that it is time for Candians and the federal opposition parties to place a "stake through the heart" of the corrupt federal government.
This editorial got me to thinking, and forced me to revisit a thought I had some time ago. In the spirit of jolly old England, I would propose that politicians that are found guilty of corruption, be charged with treason and executed.
That's right! The real deterrant to prevent corruption in a free and democratic society is capital punishment! Why not? In many countries, America included, murderers, rapists, and other violent and indiscriminate criminals face the possibility of execution. So, why not corrupt politicians? Surely, the bleeding of an entire nation is a far greater crime than a single murder or serial killer.
Execute 'em!
Round 'em up and gather them behind the barn for the final question period, with a firing squad. We could even be partisan in the entire execution process by granting the condemned the choice of bullets. The liberals could appoint Liberal bullets to their executioners, the Conservatives, could appoint Conservative bullets, and on and on -- You get the idea.
I for one am sick of the truckloads of manure that I'm being forced to swallow on a daily basis. Our politicians seem to think that they know what we want. They seem to think they know what we need. Yet, they continue to feed us nothing but pure unadulterated crap.
Here's a novel idea: Save the crap for yourself; we've had enough, thank you.
