Sorry, but this post failed the smoke test and was deemed unDOTable by the author.

It's just my DOT. Not unlike any other DOT, this DOT has special meaning and purpose for its owner, Vantage Point. You might notice that this is the special touchable DOT, not to be confused with the untouchable DOT, and, as such, is always within reach. So, whenever you feel that you need or want more, just reach out and touch the DOT.

NOTE: The touchable DOT is the predecessor to the connectable DOT. Although the touchable DOT and the connectable DOT remain compatible and complementary, under certain circumstances, they shall remain exclusive.

Along time ago in ancient Greece there lived a famous mechanic by the name of Deadalus. On a visit to the island of Crete the king of the island King Minos became very upset with him and ordered him locked up in a tower that faced the sea. Daedalus managed to escape from this tower with the help of his son Icarus only to be caught and imprisoned once again! Several times he tried to bribe himself onto a vessel and escape but every time he failed, as King Minos had a strict edict for all ships to be carefully searched upon departing from the island of Crete.

Deadalus's spirit however could not be subdued and the genius artist said to his son, "The King may control the land and the sea yet he does not control the sky, we must escape from the sky!" Deadalus told his son to collect all the gulls feathers he could find from the beaches around Crete and bring them to him. Deadalus then melted wax forming the skeleton of a bird's wings to which he would attach the feathers. He then took all the feathers tying the large one's to the skeletal structure, and pressing the small one's into the wings.

I think it's about high time the escape be made, no matter what the cost. Then, never to fly again.

His eyes are ablaze, see the madman in his gaze

Here's some more on the escape of Daedalus and his son, Icarus. Such a shame about the fall of Icarus. Sad

You can read the full entry by touching the DOT at the bottom.

In Greek mythology, Icarus (Latin, Greek Ikaros, Etruscan Vicare) was the son of Daedalus. He was imprisoned, with his father, in a tower on Crete, by the king, Minos.

Daedalus contrived to make his escape from his prison, but could not leave the island by sea, as the king kept strict watch on all the vessels, and permitted none to sail without being carefully searched. "Minos may control the land and sea," said Daedalus, "but not the regions of the air. I will try that way." So he set to work to fabricate wings for himself and his young son Icarus. He wrought feathers together beginning with the smallest and adding larger, so as to form an increasing surface. The larger ones he secured with thread and the smaller with wax, and gave the whole a gentle curvature like the wings of a bird. Icarus, the boy, stood and looked on, sometimes running to gather up the feathers which the wind had blown away, and then handling the wax and working it over with his fingers, by his play impeding his father in his labors.

I've read it before, but now that I revisit it, the symbolism is interesting. I also found this an interesting read, even if it doesn't connect exactly:

Actually, the tasteable hypercube was my first choice, but it failed the smoke test:

Reasons:

a) The tasteable hypercube turned out to have virtually no taste.

b) Users of the tasteable hypercube were thought to be suffering mild depravities by dusgusted onlookers. (The concept of licking one's CRT and/or flat-panel display was thought to be too advanced for mainstream consumers.)

c) Lego threatened legal action against the Touchable DOT Company were we to proceed with the hypercube. (You can get more information on the Lego/Mega Bloks saga by touching my DOT.)
