I just tore apart my flakey LInksys router (it would automatically reset itself every 5 minutes) and removed the 802.11b card. The card looks pretty standard, with a bit of circuit board sticking out the end where the antennas attach. I milled off a bit of the corners so it would fit in my TiBooks' cardbus slot. The card isn't recognized by the computer. System Profiler simply says "No information found." unter PC Cards.
I also tried it in my Mac OS 8.6 PB 5300 and am told "The correct software you need to use the PC Card in the "Upper PC Card slot" is not installed. Do you want to eject the card now." I tell it not to eject, and it successfully mounts the card as with the name "Network PC CARD."
Any thoughts? I'm particularly annoyed my TiBook doesn't even seem to realize there's a card there.
is what you need. You'll have to determine the card's chipset, then source a matching driver - provided one exists.
I don't know how to extract PC card info under OS X, but under a classic Mac OS you can use Apple's TupleDumper util (part of the PC card devkit) to gather card info. Hopefully TupleDumper's output will provide enough info to track down the card's chipset.
