Okay, so I have a 3400 with a 128mb memory upgrade and a Kanga with a 64mb upgrade. So I figured I wanted to max out the Kanga and take the 3400's memory upgrade and stick it in the Kanga, right?
Wrong.
Here's what happened when I switched them.
The 64mb upgrade (Viking brand), when put in the 3400, was only 1/2 working (32mb + 16 built-in = 48 according to 'about this mac'
The 128mb upgrade (Cubig brand), when put in the Kanga, does NOT work at all. It will not register with the system which will only report it has the built-in 32mb of RAM.
Is this SUPPOSED to happen? I thought these guys were interchangable.
Forgot to add, the upgrades still work properly when put in their original host machines.
The 128MB works in the 3400 (for a total of 144) and the 64MB works in the Kanga (for a total of 96).
Any help would be MUCH appreciated, I am very confused right now.
as you just found out. The specs are subtly different, and while it is possible to make a module that will work in both, in my experience most makers didn't.

Now that I look online a bit, I see that the 128MB chips for 3400s and G3 Kangas DO differ...well in that the 3400 ones have a "128" sticker on them and the Kanga ones have a "128" sticker AND a "G3" sticker.
Fascinating. And irritating.
