CPU65816 in the Apple II

Hi.

I'm in the process of building an accelerator based on the Cortex-7 processor.

I'm currently emulating the 65816 and i8080, and also running ARM Cortex-7 code.

Bit of a disaster

Had a bit of a disaster.

I picked up this ide Superdisk and tried it out first with a Mac Digital  Audio running OSX where it worked perfectly.

Then I tried it with a MDT. No luck. Next I connected it to an Acard SCSI IDE bridge and my Ramfast seemed to know it’s there but wouldn’t mount the disk. Also tried an Apple Hi-Speed SCSI card. I’d  tried this before with the mechanism from a USB Superdisk where it worked fine but not this time. I was a bit stumped so I put the Superdisk aside while I thought about it.

DOS INIT I/O Error

Hello,

I continue my quest with the Apple II Disk Emumation,

I open a new thread to share with you a specific issue, I am facing with the Smartisk Floppy Emulator.

When doing DISKII Emulation, I am testing the write part and I have very strange behavior with DOS Init disk procedure.

Using an Apple IIe (with 2 different DISK II card):

- Boot DOS, and INIT HELLO => I/O Error both an real Disk II and SmartDisk emulator,

- Using LockSmith Cerify, Fast Backup, Backup => no issue

Using a IIGS no issue using DOS Init

DiskII & Smartport Logic Analyzer protocol decoder

Hello All,

I have been developing 2 protocol decoder for sigrok / pulseview:

- Smartport

- DiskII

It can analyze each bit / byte/ drive sequence and log everything including nibble and denibble data on a log file and corresponding tag on the GUI

Sigrokprotocoldecoder

I have published my code on github and I hope it will help other people in this forum.

Making sense of Memory

I have been reading dozens of memory maps trying to make sense of them and not having a huge amount of luck. It's all quite confusing. I'm hoping some of y'all might have the special sauce.

John Relay's Apple II Info site is about the best I've seen in terms of a simple map.

Smartport Question & Solution

Hello all,

I creates here a separate thread regarding Smartport behaviour.

Smartport is not exaclty working the same between the IIGs, IIc & IIe

On the IIc & IIe via Smartport SP card, issuing PR #5 starts the smartport with the command 0x85 to init devices and start reading first boot device (id the lowest)

On the IIGS it is a bit different, at boot time it, it start checking the SELECT pin LOW and init device.

If he find not drive or no boot drive, then it start looking at C600 for boot disk

Single Step in Monitor

Hi all,

I'm not seeing it, but then again, I may be looking in the wrong place. Does the default monitor or the DOS 3.3. monitor do single step? If so, how? If not, what did folks do back when? Even the KIM-1 had single step, so, it must've been pretty common...

Thanks,

Will
