What's the best Video solution for a Vintage Apple IIe in 2025

Continuing our series on using an Apple IIe in 2025, today we are getting video working. Do we use a vintage monitor to get that authentic CRT look? Or do we use a modern flat screen? Another option is to use a modern Apple II video card. Yes, we can even use HDMI! Watch on to see the options you can use to rock 1977 hardware in 2025 and onwards!

Bit by Bit - Exploring Low-Level Programming on the Apple IIe

All,

I've just created a new playlist containing my work on learning more about low-level programming on the Apple iie and posted about it on my blog:

Here's a link the playlist:

Help wanted testing softswitches

Hi folks, I'm fixing a few emulation bugs, and am hoping to find a volunteer to help verify behavior on real hardware.

Specifically, I'm looking for someone with:

  • an Apple //c or //c+
  • an Apple ][+

and the ability to run this disk image (i.e. with a BMOW floppy emulator, ADTPro, or similar).

This self-running disk contains:

MedFLy Apple II+ Clone

Hi All, I recently purchased a large collection of Apple II equipment from a retired IT administrator who had worked in a local K–12 school district. Among the items was a MedFly, which—based on what I can tell—is an Australian clone of the German Basis 108, itself a clone of the Apple II+. So, essentially, a double clone!

Apple IIe Disk Stuck on Write Protection

I'm trying to write some disks using adtpro and I keep getting a "This disk is write protected" error. I used the other drive and same issue, and I know that one works. I've gone in with a q tip and some isopropyl and cleaned the inside of the rail, but no luck

I'm thinking it's a software issue

Floppy Emu Alternatives

I was looking for a floppy emu in general, but spending $150 on one doesn't sit well with. I do see some alternatives, like wDrive and Booti, but i want to know any others that are cheap. As long as they do the same thing the Floppy Emu does, it's fine

Apple II+ Diag ROM?

I have an Apple II+ (A2+) I'm working on. The same one with the broken keyboard, which I finally reassembled (yikes). Parts for the keyboard are on the way. But I booted the A2+ and I get no response from the keyboard, excellent screen Apple ][ and the prompt and blinking cursor. But if I hit keys, I don't see any additional characters on the screen.  I've tried 2 different keyboards so I don't think that's the keyboard is the issue. I'm about to hook it up to the scope and a logic analyser but would like to know if there is a diagnostic ROM that can help.

iie or iic in emulated system for doing assembly programming

I've looked and it's been a challenge to figure out which of the ii's to emulate for doing assembly on the apple ii. I like the enhanced iie, it's got fp basic, int basic, monitor and mini-assembler available on power up. But, I'm ignorant, really, just cuz i'm able to get it working doesn't mean it's ideal. I see lots of iic stuff out there. The list of emulated systems is quite long ii, ii+, iic, iic+, iie, iie enhanced, prolly others i've missed. Should i consider emulating iic over iie enhanced? What are y'alls experience with one vs the other?

Thanks,

best of books for iie

I looked around and haven't found a really good reference list for iie books that a newb might need. But, I've been doing my best finding and filing books that might work. I've  ordered the most important ones... so far as i can tell:

Manuals to have on hand
