My Apple 1 is alive

So here it is my Apple 1 up and running.

Having the chips and guidance from Uncle Bernie made the journey quite easier.

Thanks also to Igor. I got from him the PS/2 keyboard adapter that is a great temporary solution until I manage to build the keyboard.

So, it's been a while since I managed to get the Apple 1 up and running, and now I just wanted to post an update, as I think I can say the project is complete, after fitting everything in a custom wooden case...

Hi pfuentes69!

Looks like a million, great job!

Add another photo of the back if you don't mind, I want to see it.

Hehehe, I didn't want to put the back, because I didn't get yet the grill to cover the fan that I ordered, and the hole I made is not too nice :)

The small switch is to turn off the fan.

Very nice work on that case, regardless

Very nice work on that case, regardless of how you might feel about it...  A little wood stain around that hole and the grill addition would give it an A+ IMO.

Thanks for sharing.

It's a beautiful case, don't

It's a beautiful case, don't sell yourself short, but it's nice to see good crafstmanship.

My Z80 build is mounted to a single finished slab of wood, with rubber feet on the bottom. I still love it though; I'm waiting on a power inlet simliar to yours to finish it up.

The slight roughness of the fan hole actually kinda adds to the retro feel.

Thank you! It's been a lot of fun; this has taken 6 months off and on since I ordered the 1st backplane and module kit.

If you build one, I recommend RomWBW if you really want an awesome machine. If you go the 'normal' RAM/ROM route, SCM is still a really nice monitor and it does run CP/M 2.2 quite weill on the normal RAM/ROM module cards. I like it for it's easy ability to drive digital outputs in BASIC - simple commands like

OUT 0 , 127

or

OUT 0 , INP(0)

will set output 0 to value 127, or set output 0 to the value of input 0. On my machine this drives the relay module seen lower right.

RomWBW opened up more opportunities to use the YM2149 sound card with things like ProTracker files, and made the machine a functional BBS terminal with a slotted ESP8266 running ZiModem firmware.  If you ever decide to build one, feel free to reach out, or the google group is pretty good as well.

I agree. Its fine for an A-1

I agree.

Its fine for an A-1 given the user had to make their own in a lot of cases (no pun intended)
