How to submit Apple II disk image to Asimov

I would like to submit/post a couple of Apple II disk images to Asimov. It is an Avalon Hill golf game from 1983 that I believe is able to be posted (no issue with copyright) given there are many other Avalon Hill game titles already posted on Asimov. What is the process to get this accomplished?

FTP

Simply use an ftp client to connect to ftp.apple.asimov.net. Then enter the /pub/apple_II/incoming directory and upload your disk images. Use meaningful file names - as you would want them to appear (and describing what this is about). Then wait a few months. The maintainer(s) are only processing new uploads every now and then. They will then end up in the proper directory and be available for download (if accepted).

Got to ftp.apple.asimov.net but cannot upload

Thanks for the instructions. I think I need a little bit more information. I am using Mac OS X Monterey and was able to connect to ftp.apple.asimov.net using the Finder. I was able to naviage to the pub/apple_II/incoming directory/folder and I see a few files and .dsk images there, but I cannot copy/paste the .dsk images from my computer into the ftp incoming directory/folder. Not sure why.

A little more info

I went back to try to upload the files again and I forgot one bit of information. When I am in the Finder and type Command-K to reach an ftp site and enter "ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net" the default setting of Registered User is selected and my name is entered in the Name: field and I am prompted to enter the Password. I do not have/know the password so I selected Guest option instead of Registered User. The request for a password goes away and the Connect button is highlighted. I click on Connect and enter the ftp.apple.asimov.net Finder window with the pub folder. I can double-click into the pub folder, apple II, incoming folders but cannot copy/upload my .dsk files. I'm thinking that as a Guest I do not have the previlige to write to this ftp location.

no anon up

That ftp server doesn't provide for anonymous ("guest") uploads.

The /pub/Apple_II/incoming directory has permissions

drwxrwsr-x   2 apple2   apple2       8192 Mar 11 02:57 incoming

Which means that only the user "apple2", or users who are part of the group "apple2", can create files in it.

A site allowing anonymous uploads would have permissions

drwxrwsrwt   2 usr   grp       8192 Dec 7 07:48 incoming

The "rwt" means that anonymous users (who are neither the owner nor group of the incoming directory) can read (or list) the directory, create files in it, and are restricted from deleting files. Another common configuration is "-wt" which means anonymous users can upload into the directory, but cannot list the files already there.

FTP sites in general, but especially those with "incoming" directories that can be read & written by anyone on Earth, have mostly gone extinct on the modern Internet because they become magnets for abuse.

I am not sure what the drama

I am not sure what the drama is. I just pasted ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/incoming/ into Windows Explorer and uploaded a file using drag-and-drop. This means that the FTP site does allow anonymous uploads.

Here is the link to the newly uploaded file: ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/incoming/IGRA_I_MATEMATIKA.zip

Btw, saving this particular diskette (a collection of puzzle games) from being lost was quite the adventure: click!

Yes, anonymous uploads do

Yes, anonymous uploads do work. I also recently uploaded files - which are not processed yet, and still sit in the incoming folder.

One thing to note: you cannot overwrite or download files in the "incoming" folder. Not even the files you have uploaded yourself. This is for obvious reasons. You have to wait until the maintainer reviewed them and placed them in the proper download folders. But as I wrote earlier, this only seems to happen like twice a year or so. So you'll have to wait a bit...

I can't help with any Finder specific instructions though.

It's been a while since I

It's been a while since I last booted my laptop as a Hackintosh!

It cannot be done from Finder. You can only mount FTP sites as read only. However there are many free client FTP apps in the AppStore that will do the job.

Used my Windows laptop to upload

I looked at the free FTP apps in the Apple App Store and tried one, but could not quickly figure out how to connect to ftp.apple.asimov.net. So I decided to use my old Windows laptop and just like one post said, I opened a Windows Explorer window and went to the ftp.apple.asimov.net incoming folder and was able to drag and drop the .dsk image files and a PDF of the game manual. Very easy. I usually find things easier to do on my MacBook and Mac OS X, but in this case MS Windows was easier to perform the needed task. Thanks.
