yes i have just recently installed ubuntu and i can not get my printer to work i wanted to switch from windows to ubuntu or linspire but i can not get my printer to work nor can i get my externa; hard drive to work either is there hope or do i ned to go back to windows ?

What brand printer is it? Most printers work under the gimp-print driver. You will most likely get more help on a ubuntu forum.
How are these external devices attached? USB? Ethernet? Drive on external SATA connector?
