Hot Wheels Computer by Patriot - Need help its dead

Hi,

I have a Hot Wheels desktop computer system (yes I am a Hot Wheels collector). It is made by Patriot. It is complete and I got it very cheap. The seller said it was dead.

Well it is dead and I am assuming it is the power supply. When Its plugged in and you push the power button absolutely nothing happens. Can anyone tell me how to test the power supply? For instance where to put the circuit tester leads. Or any other tests to determine the problem.

Thanks,

MaxTek

Cool ! I always wanted one of those.

I would guess it's a regular ATX PSU. Have you tried Googling for the connector pin-outs for an ATX ?

What would really be cool is to stick a G3 or G4 board in that sucker !

IIRC, those use mini-ATX powe

IIRC, those use mini-ATX power supplies. They make inexpensive ($10 or so) power supply testers that you can use to determine what parts, if any, are dead.

I've never heard of that before. What's that? Could you post pictures of that?

good luck....

I was given two Barbie PCs from the same company to try to get one working. Supposedly one of the units did work, but when I recieved it it would not power up. Different power supplies and cases did not help.

I have a Barbie. Doest it pass the POST test?

1st does it passes the POST Test(that the beep when the computer is first turn on). If it does than it not the power. If not your in big trouble. Like they say make sure the cable is connected.
if so, u might just want to buy a new power. they not that expense, if u go to computer warehouse, wholeseller, or computer expo show. HOPE THIS HELP

No beep, no lights, no fan movement, no nothing. So am I safe to assume the power supply is hosed?

Thanks for the replies.

Well have you tested the syst

Well have you tested the system with another known working powersupply? You should be able find someone/friend who can let you borrow a powersupply to test your system.

It doesn't need to fit or anything, you just need to hook it up to the mmotherboard and turn the system on to see if it powers up. if it powers up, then your old supply is dead.

Hot Wheels Computer

I was given a Hot Wheels computer that would not start up at all. I took it apart (which is easier said than done) and replaced the CMOS battery. Once replaced, the computer started right up.

My old Power MAC is the same, i.e. if its battery is completely dead, it will not even start up.

CMOS Battery

Your a genius! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I went to the local Shack and purchased a new CMOS battery and it fired right up!

The question is why in the world didn't I think of this. I have had plenty of Mac's with dead pram batteries that exhibited all kinds of funky behavior.

Thanks again!

Hot Wheels CD ROM

I, too, have a Hot Wheels Computer that I bought brand new. It's been a jewel, but recently the CDROM quit working. The drawer still goes in and out, but it will not play or read the CD. Any ideas?

What part of the world do you

What part of the world do you live in? If you're in a dry/dusty climate like I am in Alberta, your drive could just be dirty. However, your drive is probably hosed. I would imagine it's a standard PC drive, and you can replace it fairly cheaply. The downside is, however, that it will probably not aesthetically match the rest of your 'puter.

Cheers,

Same thing happened to my sister's "Barbie Computer" (actually, it's now my 12 yo nieces machine...), I just bought another CD-ROM at a show and replaced it.

If you're lucky you can even find one with a silver face. If not, a little modeling paint will fix that...

It's still a nice little machine. A couple of companies were remaindering these at $75 for just the computer, and I wish I had gotten one or two.

Hot Wheels Computer

Hi, I have a hotwheels computer that will not turn on either, can you tell me what kind of CMOS battery you bought to get yours working. I went to turn it on one day and it was completely dead. I bought it for my son and he used it for a couple of years and then we put it away. When my daughter got big enough to use it we pugged it up and it was dead. Please help. Luckystar6970

Battery type

I know you didn't ask me, but when I looked at the two Barbie PCs it was a coin battery, type CR2032.
