Enabling Video-in on an ATI Nexus 128

I've finally built my 'semi-dream' G3 Mac from parts of other ones I had at home. Yes, it's slow, but they're paid for. Smile

Currently it consists of the following:

-G3/333 with 1024KB L2 cache
-512MB RAM
-20GB Hard disk
-Yamaha 16x4x? CD-RW drive
-Zip 100 SCSI drive (I use them for small backups)

PCI Cards:
-ATI Nexus 128 16MB PCI card with VIVO
-Generic USB2/FW400 card (ALI chipset) - 2 USB and 2 FW on back of card, headers on the card for 4 more USB ports.
-10/100 NIC with Realtek chipset

MacOS 10.2/9.0 (I'm in the process of updating them)

What I would like to do is be able to capture video throught the video in port on the video card. I know it won't burn DVDs in its current state, and that's OK for now. Ican copy it over to the PC and burn the files on its DVD burner.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure the Nexus have V

Are you sure the Nexus have VIVO? I thought only the Xclaim 128 have VIVO. The Nexus have VO only. I know the Xclaim works under os9 for video capture. I have one. I never bother with it in X. I got a DVD Camcorder instead, worked better.

If ATI supports it, they should have software for X on their website.

Hmm....

I'll have to check which ATI card it is - it was in a 9600/300 that was given to me with no documentation. All I know is that is has a Rage 128 chip on it with some extra jacks on the back of the card.

Originally the G3 minitower had a 300mhz chip in it. I put a 333 in it and changed the jumpers. Now it has corrupted video and won't boot. When I get home, I'll put the 300 back in.

It does have video in

The card has VGA, TV Out, SVHS In, and RCA In.

Alas, the minitower case seems to be on the fritz. I put the 300mhz chip back in, and it booted into OS X for a while, but I needed to boot into 9 to update it to 9.2.2. Needless to say, it absolutely refuses to do so and won't boot at all. The PRAM battery has been removed and the CUDA switch has been pressed.

I do have 2 desktop G3 cases, so I will transfer the contents of the minitower to one of those.

I think I have found the card

It appears to be an XCLAIM VR 128 without the TV Tuner. Everything else in the description matches what's on the card.

The TV tuner of the Xclaim Vr

The TV tuner of the Xclaim Vr 128 is external. It's a purple box about 4x4x1 inch. It goes to that S-Video like connector.

Corrupted Video? sure you didn't OCed the PCI bus by mistake?

Nope.. I think

Before placing the 333 chip in there, I noted the jumper positions and made sure that they were placed in the same position. Given the hour it was done, I wouldn't be surprised if I screwed up though.

When I placed the 333 chip on the board, I used the one-piece jumper block with the from the original board. Strangely enough, the board that originally had the 333 chip in it is the logic board that was originally in the mini-tower case. Currently it's in a hacked ATX case with 288MB RAM and a 10GB hard disk.

Like I said, there's something screwy with the mini-tower case. When I got it, some sort of cleaning solution had been spilled onto it. I basically disassembled it as far as I could go and cleaned out as much of the cleaning solution as I could, then reassembled it.
