I wanted to show my Color Classic... I won a mod contest at a 500 person LAN party (PDXLAN.COM) with it.. here are the final specs:

Intel 2.6 Celeron
MSI-6721 Motherboard with sound, video, ethernet, and usb
512 MB of RAM
Slot load Pioneer DVD ROM
80GB 7200 spin 8MB cache drive
Vantec 1u cooler and fan
Sparkle 250 power supply
Pisces DM10 Analog board

This machine runs game servers very well... thanks for all the CC inspirations here Stuart and all of you.

Very Nice!

Okay, here's a preemptive strike against the responses you're likely to get here that condemn you for turning a CC into a WinTel PC. I actually partially agree that it's a shame to gut a Mac and make it a PC... BUT, I want to compliment you on a very nicely done hack. I really like the black paintjob - I have a black PowerPC Color Classic myself, and I think black is wonderful on the CC form factor. It also is a good choice given that you've widened the floppy slot for the optical drive - the black color reduces the visual impact of that modification, retaining more of the original CC appearance.

If folks here aren't too upset by what you've done, I think you should post a story here detailing your procedure.

And, it would be really cool if you loaded Linux on the machine, and then loaded Mac-on-Linux on that. Then you could take a screenshot of this unit running Mac OS X!

I believe Mac-on-Linux requires a PowerPC processor? I think he might be limited to Basilisk II.

Ditto on the nice paint job!

That's nicely done!

I think some of the complaints here over Wintel in Mac cases has been some of those previous mods have been really poorly done.

Not this one, it's sweet! I'll second or third an interest in seeing its internals and a how-to.

How I built it....

I can write a small document on how I did it within a few weeks. Basically, I took a CC that had a slightly yellowed case, a dead analog board, and no hard drive and I gutted it... I have some pictures that I took along the way that I will include. I know that in a lot of ways it is a shame to gut it... but, it was parted out to begin with AND it was sort of yellowed.

Well in that case, no shame in your game. Smile

IMHO, if a CC has a dead analog board, it's fair game for any sort of hack, including Macquairium or Intel machine.

Yes, it's sacreligious.. but

Yes, it's sacreligious.. but it's also very nicely done. Can we have a picture of the back? If you managed to find a way to make the PC's ports look nice on the back, It will be OK in my book.
