Way to go Gmail!!

I just visited the Gmail site and they have an April Fools joke about Unlimited storage. well, I logged in and found that I have 99MB'z More space added to the Gig that they already give you. Do you ever think anyone is ever going to use a full gig of email space. One word: Backup! If you run out of space on the computer you are working on, why not zip the file (or use stuffit to separate the large files into small .zip archives,) and backup your data onto google.
I wonder if it is ethical to use Gmail as a backup? I know it is certainly useful for saving large stuff in attachments without downloading them right after they are sent (and not having your account full and bouncing email b/c your space is used up) The also added some more stuff. But you will have to read here: www.gmail.com

Sorry about the long rant (or praise). Im tired and energetic at once. Could be a side affect of that moldy bread I bit into. Bleecchhh!

Apparently Google increased e

Apparently Google increased each account's storage to 2GB from 1GB.

Also, there are programs out there for Windows that let you connect to your Gmail account via WebDAV. Pretty nifty.

If it can be done on a microsloth-infected PC, then it should be do-able on Mac OS X as well. MOSX has WebDAV support (at least as of 10.3.8; not sure how far back in MOSX history that support goes). Here is an excerpt from the relevant man page:

---

MOUNT_WEBDAV(8) BSD System Manager's Manual MOUNT_WEBDAV(8)

NAME
mount_webdav - mount a WebDAV filesystem

SYNOPSIS
mount_webdav [-a] [-o options] host[:port][/path] node

---

IIRC, Mac OS 9.? had some WebDAV support as well. Not sure what version(s) and what extension(s) were required.

OS X does have embedded WebDAV support, but only on non-secure connections. If you try to connect to a WebDAV share using a secure connection (the address begins with https://), it'll error out. In that case, you need to use Goliath X to connect.

I think the program for Windows is more than a WebDAV client. I'm sure Google has some interesting tweaks worked into it, and the program likely is specifically designed to work around those.
