Hybrid SE/30 CC

Hi all Smile
I was wondering if anyone has tried to get a Colour Classic CRT (and all the display stuff) into an SE/30? I am not sure this is a feasable hack... I would like to here your advice Wink

OS8 installs as I type on the trusty SE/30

colour, shmolour

I think the stopper for a hack like that would be that the SE/30 motherboard cannot, in stock configuration, output colour, or even greyscale.

There are a couple expansion boards that could sit between the SE/30 and CC analog board, but they are quite rare and expensive.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that the CC and SE/30 both run a 16 MHz 68030, so other than the higher max. memory of the SE/30, there's really nothing to be gained by a hack like that.

Speed

The only thing about the SE/30 is its speed it is much faster than the CC even with equivalent setups... With a colour display adaptor should be possible.. or if any one can tell me how to get the CC to go better like have more than 10Mb of Ram or something without having to hack the case...

Plonk an LC 575 board into the CC. Yeah, you'll need a new back panel, but that's still peanuts compared to the structural changes required to put a CC analog board into an SE/30. And that still doesn't address the difficulty in finding a colour expansion board for the SE/30.

I'd go so far as to say that even a Takky modification would be less work than doing this hack. By all means, feel free to make the attempt, and if you're successful it'll be an impressive and novel item, but I can't see the logic in taking this route over a simple Mystic upgrade.

Need to find a board

Well in that case I need to find a LC 575 board... not so easy were I am but hopes are high... Is there any way to get more ram on the original board in the mean time? 10Mb is a little too little...

10 MB is as good as it gets,

10 MB is as good as it gets, using the original logic board.

LC 575 boards are fairly cheap on ebay, so depending on your location, shipping may be the issue.

I can't get onto the Color Classic Mega-Faq (anyone: is it down?) but here's some reading for you from Stuart's site:
Link.

Can't get onto that site eith

Can't get onto that site either...
I have moved over to the CC section to ask the CC experts how to go about hacking the CC...

I have put the SE/30 Hybrid aside for now as I can't find (and probably won't soon) a Micron Xceed video card...
