OS 8 screen on SE/30

Hi!

I am running OS 8.1 on my SE/30, it runs just fine, but the only trouble is that some windows are out of view on the screen, especially installer windows.

Do any of you have an idea of how to get every thing adjusted to be visible on the screen? At the moment my monitor is adjusted to the original resolution of the SE/30...

Thanx for some help Wink

Dark side

It is funny how displays seem to be the dark side of the Mac force, each time I post about displays I never get any answers Acute

From what I know

Mac OS 8 was never made to run on less than 640x480 resolution(I can't think offhand if any 512x384-res Macs had 040 processors), so most OS 8-only windows will default to thinking they're on a screen with higher resolution than the SE/30- causing your current problem.

No easy way around it, or hard way for that matter... er... either go back to OS 7, deal with it on OS 8, or focus on a newer Mac.

this ain't an easy one ya know!

Now IIRC, back in the day there was some sort of init/cp that would solve this very problem. However I never used it myself and have no clue to the name. IIRC, where possible it would reposition out-of-sight windows back to the visible portion of the screen . . .

sorry I can't recall more

You could add a second monito

You could add a second monitor to the SE/30... A monitor that displays higher resolutions would fix that problem for ya.

As I recall, there were several external monitor alternatives for the SE/30. Nice machine... Wish I had one that worked!

I have tried DragAnyWindow an

I have tried DragAnyWindow and that works OKish, as it allows to move the windows so as to view the hidden parts of it...

The second monitor would be an idea but for that I would need a display card and that is impossible to find (at a reasonable price...) so that is no good...

IIRC well I don't quite know what that is???

Grr...I was sure there was so

Grr...I was sure there was some software modification that would allow later OSs to use 512 x 384, but I can't find it. It was probably in Color Classic documentation.

Do you have the option in the monitor control panel or control strip to 'show all resolutions' vs. 'recommended resolutions'. Again, this is a wild guess on my part, not currently having a Mac running 8 to check...

OS 8 on SE/30

I think your best bet is to find one of the external video cards for the SE/30. The cards were used a lot with the portrait monitors.

The black and white cards are kinda hard to find but usually not too expensive. The color video cards are high though and even tougher to find.

I had a look, but I am not quite sure if this thread contains any info on small displays...

Well if you can find me a real cheap display card Wink
