They are good...

Other good resellers; Mac of All Trades and Baucom Computers.

I've done several deals with both of them, and they are stand-up outfits. They deal mostly in newer hardware.

Low End Mac also has good listings of resellers, and goes so far as to track who has the best prices for a given machine.

Who would pay $99 for either a IIe or a 1GB SCSI drive? Thats's what he means.

You should check...

You think that's bad? Check out the website for Bravo Sierra Computers. They sell old Atari computer equipment and software. Who would pay $10 for one shareware program that you could easily and freely download from the Internet?

How about $45 for a 1200 baud modem? $60 if you want said modem to ship with a manual and a box.

There's some interesting blurbs on their site as well. You might want to check it out if you ever decide that your Macs and PC's are rubbish and you're ready to move on to a "real computer." Wink

Just kidding! However, the proprietor of BS Computers does have a blurb about why Atari is better than Windows and Mac.

Geez...

"Bravo Sierra"'s argument as to why Windows is inferior to Atari is that Windows gets obsolete quickly... but uhh... Atari? What's an "Atari", mummy?

this one just slays me

When I'm searching for stuff on Google, these guys always show up in the first 10 hits... so someone must be using their site...

Lets have a contest to see who can find the most outrageously overpriced item on their site!

Hey, no fair...

Come on, give "We Love Macs" a break. After all, that monitor is on sale for $299. That's a savings of $600 off their regular price. That's a steal!

Ya know, there are actually people that will look at that website and buy that monitor just because it's on sale and $600 cheaper than the regular price. I actually know people like this. They look only at how much they're allegedly saving and not at how much they're paying. Usually they're still paying too much.

re: What do you mean?

Back in-the-day complaints to the comp.sys.mac groups (and elsewhere) about Shreve's product and business practices were common. Were those complaints justified? Dunno, but there sure were alot of them, cetainly enough so I avoided dealing with them myself. For me to say more here wouldn't be legally smart, so for details you'd have to dig back a bit . . .

Anyhow, they're pretty much irrelevant anymore what with so many other sources for similar items. As Jon noted they love their merchandise and are reluctant to part with any except at extraordinary prices. That's one thing about them which hasn't at all changed.

I don't know what it's like in the U.S. of A., but here in Canada, fair comment and public interest are permissable. Truth is always an absolute defense and public entities are always fair game as far as public interest and fair comment are concerned.

You can pretty much say anything you want provided it is in the public interest and it is true or it is fair comment. Media use fair comment an awful lot otherwise they'd up to their eyeballs in litigation. You and I both know that media don't always print or report the absolute truth. They get away with what they say by using fair comment and public interest rules.

re: Fair Comment

In this case I cannot provide specific truth, only my memories. And since those memories are of other's experiences, I cannot in any good conscience say more than I have. Now if I had my own story to tell, that would be different, but publicly repeating hearsay is rarely legally or ethically valid. I can, and did, however, provide a vague and general report of having read many others' negative stories, and that much is the truth.

Also, beware of assuming fair comment or public interest where commercial interests are at stake. One may find oneself at the sharp end of an expensive lawsuit.
