...Yet Another Holy Grail Post
As with any CRT to LCD conversion, you'd need an expensive controller board between the logic board and the LCD.
For the price they go for, you would be better off probably picking up an 8" VGA capable LCD monitor, plus a better logic board and power supply that could all be fit into the case.
Everytime some one here asks about an LCD anywhere it doesn't belong, this "expensive controller board" comes up...
Let the board be revealed! Where is this tyrant of video, and where does he hawk his fabled controller boards?
This has to be done. The compact mac is a beautiful design. WIth the advent of the mini mobo, it BEGS to be a clustered all in one, with tons of firewire raid space, but the LCD is essential...
Wise LCD oracle, tell us where to find this contoller board!

There's no single controller board...it depends on which LCD panel you have, and what signal you're sending to it.
I remember some discussion here, possibly back in the old board, about SE and SE/30 video pinouts, but don't remember the outcome, save that it's not a VGA output. That would likely further complicate things.
Those who have worked on CC LCD projects could better inform, but it looks to me like This Chap is a good representation of a controller board.
i might send the designer of the colby walkmac and email asking how he did it because he used a plain off the apple production line macintosh se motherboard, with special permission from apple.
ps. is there anywere that has an archive of the old message board, or could someone provide me with the url it used to have?
and Bdub i didnt mean a laptop LCD, i meant an lcd with a dvi, apple video, or vga connection already built in.
Little LCDs are hard to come by. I remember when 14" were all over the place, now its 17" and 20" and up. Sure, the tiny ones, that they overcharge for, for the back of the headrest in the fam van, or whatever, but most of them are wide screen.
I found an LCD that is a near perfect fit for the compact case, I BELIEVE (don't make me look it up, I can't remember) its from the color duo, uh, 280c?, 640 X 400... the size is right, I just wish I could find one that is the same size, but resolution up to 800 X 600, but right now, its just sitting in the box it came in... until I can spend the time to figure it all out. But at least it was cheap, @ $20
btw, off the subject, has anyone even seen an Apple Studio Display 15"? (code name Manta).
neato design... wonder if any exist that are still alive
(Puts hands up in the air)
All I did was post an FAQ page, I swear.
If you're looking at an LCD with a connector already built in it should have the controller board included. The big problem would be getting a VGA (or other) signal out of the Mac.
Catmistake, I think i recall seing a black version of that somewhere.
