The first one was one of those Apple Pro Keyboards with the transparent black keys. Riscx visits the forums here on occassion - I think he posted some comments on the keyboard in the old forums. He also says its a PITA in the writeup.

The iBook mod has a writeup here No comments on how hard it is but good description of what he did.

My new 17" PowerBook G4 comes with a backlit keyboard. Although i wish my 1999 G3 PowerBook had this. When i first got the 17" i thought the bacvklit keyboard was silly, but i use it so often, i don't know how i lived without it. I really miss it when im using my other machines.
