PSU Fan Removal

Hey Guys, I just wanted to post about a 'mod' I just did to my new PSU on my PC. I had to get a new PSU because my old one died, and I got me a new 300watt PSU from newegg.com. This was a dual fan PSU, but the problem was that it was too big for my case. The 2nd fan was sticking out and the PSU would not fit into the case. I decided to remove the fan instead of calling newegg for a smaller PSU, since it would take till next week at least to get my PC up and running again. I had to remove the PSU off its case in order to remove the fan, and there's a hole where the fan used to be. I'm sort of afraid the PC will explode or something if a wire or something gets caught inside the hole. Do you guya think theres any chance of somthing happening to the PSU just b/c I removed the fan?
I'll post some pics in a little while.
Sorry about the long post,

Daniel

PSU

OK Here's a picture of the PSU opening where the fan used to be...I'm afraid a wire or something else can get inside of there causing a lot of damage to my comp.

get a grill or screen

You could pick up a fan grill or cut a piece of screen and glue it to the opening. That'll keep the wire bunnies from jumping in there. Smile

Don't worry...

about it. For the PSU to have enough suction to pull wiring into it and grounding out, you'd be pulling so much air through the pc that papers and other small items in your house would be piling up on it. Just use good cable routing in your pc, use cable ties, give a little tug on each cable to see if they even have the range of motion to be able to reach into the hole. If you're still paranoid about it, then yeah, go for a grill.

duct-tape

Hmm... I the fan I removed had a grill, I guess I could install that grill in there, but, it won't fit. The PSU fit in there slightly tight, there was only room for the wires to pass through the opening. I used rubber bands as I ran out of cable ties. I might give it a try with duct tape,though...
