I have been trying for 2-3 days to get a Proxim Skyline working on 3 different Powerbooks with no go.
They are a PB G4, PB 1400 and a PB 540c. I have downloaded and tried every piece of Proxim and Farallon driver package I could find, even the firmware update doesn't work.
When I insert the Skyline Cardbus card in my Tibook it shows a generic cardbus icon. All the software says it can't find a Skyline and the Skyline itself has a very slow blink to its green light (maybe this is the answer, anyone know?).
When I try loading the software it says to insert the Skyline disk. I have a disk image of the Skyline disk and it is mounted but when I click install it says to insert the Skyline disk!
Is the installer dis-mounting my disk image? Do I need to burn a CD from that image?
Anyone out there an expert on this Proxim Skylines? I was told to get this specifically for my 540c and rev 2 adapter. But since I couldn't get anything on that PB I tried my 1400 and than my Tibook.

It's not really a cardbus card, is it? I mean, if it's really a cardbus card it wouldn't fit into a PB1400's PCMCIA slot.
Are you sure the model you've got is a version for which there are Mac drivers? I've got a couple of cheaply-acquired Proxim cards that aren't supported by any Mac drivers of which I'm aware. Proxim made a lot of different hardware, not all works with Macs.

Proxim Skyline 802.11a Cardbus Card

underneath the silver sticker it says MODEL: 4030
4030-J12170FZ1NVR
I searched on Proxim.com for the number on the silver sticker (8450) and it only comes up with a Proxim Harmony 802.11b card.
Than I searched for the number under the sticker (4030) and it came up with my card, at least picture wise.
Either my card has a wrong sticker on it or it was firmware and/or flashed to the 8450...if that is even possible.
But in any case the Proxim site says both are Windows cards. Am I screwed with this one? Is there no way to get it working on my Powerbooks?
all this time I thought all I needed to search for was "proxim skyline".
It wouldn't stay in the top slot of the 1400 but would (at least it felt like it) in the bottom.

Heh, while most of the skyline cards are Mac-supported, IIRC none of the Harmony cards are, so basically you're scr . . . errr, you'll have to renew your search. I'd suggest looking for a puka Lucent or orinoco silver or Gold 802.11b card. Hard to go wrong with those and the cost these days is as cheap as any.

11a is not 11b, and the drivers for one won't work with the other.
