This is news. Billy's mad about something, and is taking his ball & going home.
Good thing there is already a solution to running .wmv files in QuickTime; Flip4Mac WMV.

I saw this days ago when I got my Mini. I instlled teh Flip4Mac and it works WAY better than the old MS provided crud. Of course I'm having a hard time finding WMV files to watch that aren't pr0n... It seems like most of the good stuff is either in QuickTime, MPG, or a mix. (and I'm not talking pr0n here...)
Of course let's not forget MPlayer and VLC, both remarkably capable of playing WMV (and almost everything else) and definitley worth having on your machine no matter what (supported) OS you run
VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
MPlayer (OS X): http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/
MPlayer (everyone else): http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/news.html
I thought of VLC also (I use it for playing .avi files) but when I tried playing a .wmv with my copy (v. 0.8.1) it gave all kinds of nasty errors. Is there a plug-in or something that enables it to play MS junk?
So long, WiMP! Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.
Never really cared much for the Mac version of Windows Media Player anyway.
yeah the mac version sucked. it always crashed on me and frooze things up
I'm running 0.8.4 and it handles a lot of WMVs alright... not as well as MPlayer does, but I am using a win32 binary codecs package which probably contains properietary Microsoft code to play them better.
Sucked in you piece of... well... ?
I alway hated Windows Media Player. The only thing I don't get is why they called it
Windows Media Player when you're not running Windows?!
Flip4Mac is the best.
