Ti Powerbook Hinges

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Ti Powerbook G4 hinges. I think mine is 800 Mhz. anyway, I was wondering if anyone has thought of taking the monitor off, flipping it around, and reattaching it to make a tablet? I would like to try it, and hopefully succeed, but I don't have the right screw driver right now, and am not sure if there are any wires that travel through the hinges. I got the idea last year after the right hinge broke off.

It has been pondered

Tho im not personally aware fo anyone pulling it off, it has been pondered. (You may also want ot add a touchscreen, btw). As for wires traveling through the hinge: The power feeds for the screen & backlight travel through the hinge, as does the video cable. The video cable is very fragile, and easy to damage if you'r not carefull. I'd alos be concerned with the length of the cables... there usually just long enough to reach in the laptops current configuration. That being said, keep us posted on your progress, and post pics if you do indeed pull it off.

yes

See my page on the very subject.

Someone recently asked me the same question, here was my response to them about removing the external parts of the hinges -

. . . hinges are completely 'external', just remove the screws and then you can fold the display around to the 'back' (bottom) of the base unit. Be very careful with the wires of course, making sure they don't get pinched or crushed, else you'll end up having to take apart the display itself to replace it.

You might also want to consider simply replacing the broken hinge, see my page on that subject.
