I bought a B&W G3 the other day. All was working fine - with the exception of a dead CMOS battery.
When I got it home I installed OSX 10.2 which went well. However, the next time I rebooted it I've got stange verticle lines through the screen of start up and a one inch (roughly) white line to the right of the mouse pointer.
Strangely, I reinstalled OS8.5 from the original disks and the line remains. I have booted into Ubuntu and that also have the same line.
I've tried a different screen, a different monitor. I'm pretty sure it's either the graphics card of the Motherboard (hoping it the graphics card).
Anyway, got any ideas?
Cheers,
Simon
Is there a firmware update for the blue & white G3?
Yes there is. I downloaded it a few days ago - install was easy but it didn't make any change to the stage graphics.
I'm trying to test the video card by putting it in my Beige G3 but I can't work out how to get it to display on the second card.
well when you install a video card you need to press and hold the cuda button in the beige for 30 seconds so it will see the card. make shure you cave a monitor hooked to it before you power up.
BTW what os are you booting to on your beige G3 . if you have OS 9.x installed hold your option key as soon as you hear your start sound that is if it boots to OS X normaly when you power up insted of booting to OS 9.x that is if you still have OS 9.x. if you dont have it installed install it and boot into it. OS 9.x is almost manditory to have on a Beige G3 cause it is good to find out your problems and do diagnose
