Dell OEM Adaptec 39160 Ultra160 64-bit PCI card with Ultra160 cable & terminator.

This is a Dell OEM 64-bit server card. It includes the card and an Ultra 160 cable and an Ultra 2/160/3 terminator.

Adaptec SCSI Card 39160
ASC-39160/DELL
DP/N 0360MG-C/O SG-Rev A00
Adaptec AIC-7899G chip, v2.57.2 firmware, unknown if updated

Dell 8459U AT SCSI cable
Planar & Peripheral 68-pin connectors and Amphenol P/N 497330001 Rev J Ultra 2/160/3 terminator built-in to cable.

I don't have a single 64-bit PCI capable machine to test it with so I can't offer my own full non-DOA warranty, but I picked it up from a reputable dealer who sold it with a warranty. I would assume 99% sure that it was pulled from a working server machine that they couldn't sell whole because it was missing other parts for security reasons (they offer hard drive removeal and destruction services). It's to be sold untested and AS-IS. I'm guessing that it [i]might[/b] be possible to flash this card with Mac compatible firmware, but that is fully unsupported and you'll be on your own if you make the attempt. Wink

PM me with offers. Sold for accepted offer price plus actual shipping fees for shipper of your choice. I'm in Zip 64053, but it may also ship from nearby 64064 or other Zip, depending on your choice of shipper. References from AF members on request if desired. Payment via Paypal preferred.

Thanks
Jon.

Adaptec page for the 39160: [

Adaptec page for the 39160: HERE

The page reads that it's 32-bit compatible, so I may be able to test the card if desired under the BIOS on a Dell Optiplex GX110 and with Ubuntu Linux or other free x86 OS.

You can buy a new 39160 with Mac firmware for just $482.99 from CompUSA. Wink Personally, I'd buy used and try a reflash first but that's the hacker in me being all cheap again.

Tested and working. I'll give a mostly non-DOA, ie. I don't have a 64-bit PCI machine to test in, but it is verified on a 32-bit machine.

Test base: Dell Optiplex GX150 SFF, Celeron 700, 192MB RAM, Fujitsu 10GB ATA drive with Ubuntu 5.10 server install as boot drive.

I testede the card in the only available PCI slot with the case open. Things fit just fine. I attached a Seagate Barracuda 18XL 9.1GB Ultra160 (ST39236LW) drive with the single device cable I'm including. These cables are available online for up to $90-ish... I tested the card and drive by booting the system and entering the SCSI-Select software from the cards BIOS. I ran a full block scan from the on board utilities. Every thing scanned though fine. I then let it reboot and let Ubuntu boot into the command prompt. From there parted could read the partition map of the drive fine, and recognized the formatted but empty HFS+ partition. I was able to mount and view the (few) stock system files on the drive. The dmesg output showed the card was fully and correctly recognized with both channels available. The 'cuda was found on channel A as an Ulta 160 device.

If somebody wants to buy the card and cable for a nice price, I'll include the 'cuda if they want and cover the added shipping costs to do so.
