My First Hack

Hey all

I'm about to attempt my first hack, nothing too daring; want to put a 4400 MoBo in a way cooler PC style case. Unfortunatly the 4400's PS is fried. I know that an ATX PS can be hacked to work... Anyone know where I can find the PS Pinouts for the 4400? I tried XLR8yourmac.com but I can't find anything :-s

TIA

Are you sure?

Are you sure the PSU is shot? ie have you taken a multimeter to it? Or is it just not booting (which on that system could be because of a dead PRAM battery).

If it is shot is it a paperweight or is it providing the wrong voltages? If its giving the wrong voltages you might be able to figure out what the difference is from the HD molex connector then use that as a base to figure out the correct voltages for the MLB power connector.

Yeah the PowerSupply is defin

Yeah the PowerSupply is definately shot. There was a slight power surge that took out a house worth of appliances. Most just needed a fuse, but the 4400 definately needs a PS. MoBo looks to be good tho (computer was off at the time)

you could always try your loc

you could always try your local computer recycling shop, i got a new 7100 power suply there, that would also solve the pinout problem, and correct me if i'm wrong but didnt at least some of the power suplys have the pinout on the side/bottom(mb side) other than that just hacking a cheap 300w power suply should work(make it a really cheap one incase you fry it) :coolmac:

Test

Definitely test that motherboard before you put too much effort into customizing it...

Definately.....

You can find a PPC for the project for about the price of a ATX PSU. Not to mention the effort of making the ATX PSU work.

Maybe the later PPC's (desktops) have a compatible PSU and they sell pretty cheap. And if the 4400 board is fried you'll have another board to work with.

Beige

Beige G3 motherboards are cheap, and work off an ATX supply with nothing but a jumper shift.
