IIc keyswitch problem

I just dug out my //c to get some stuff setup to let my child play with, and I found that the Control key is loose. I took apart the //c to discover that the top of the keyswitch has come apart and the only thing keeping the key in place is the key underlay that is built-in to the //c. I need to know how to get the cap back on, or somehow get it back together. I don't wanna pry on the keys much until I know how they come off. I can get the bottom (toward the user) side of the key cap to latch back on, but the top side might either be not latching or broken. I I use the key too much, the bottom pops loose again. Not good for the kids! Sad

Any suggestions?

Also, any software suggestions for the 3yo range? Something noisy and flashy with all kinds of colors would work, so ong as it's got some stuff I can use in it to teach her with. She relyl likes typing on the keyboard, and can take direction to press a few keys as I name them for her.

I'm pretty sure when I took my whole //c keyboard apart the keycaps just came off with the same butter-knife method most other ones do. I dismantled my whole keyboard and took out all those little clicky thin metal springs because some had already fallen out and the keyboard had an inconsistant feel....

That's the reassurance I was

That's the reassurance I was hoping for. I pulled several neighboring keys off first and then turned the rubber mat up and held the top fo the keyswitch and the key itself and pulled 'em apart. The top clip of the keyswitch was broken off, but the bottom was fine. I had to straighten the metal spring inside the switch a bit, and then added two drops of super glue to the top corners of the keyswitch. Put the top back on and held it in place for a minute. Then I let it sit for a while while I cleaned and then replaced the keys I had pulled. Put it all back together and it's going to sit over night to let the super glue cure out. It seems to be holding well for now.

Thanks!

3yo reccomendation

I also put together a IIc for my 3 year-old son. Many of the educational programs are for slightly older kids, but I find the Sticky Bear programs just right. Sticky Bear ABC is one he can play with. Although he already knows his letters, it also makes the first steps to spelling. I think I found the DSK on asimov.

Thanks for the suggestion. N

Thanks for the suggestion. Now I've gotta get something setup to transfer stuff to the //c. I use a PowerMac 5260/100 as a TV and currently as the monitor for the //c. I guess it'd be fairly easy to setup ADT on it. I just need to drop in a PDS ethernet card to get it on the internet for the .DSK files.
