IIGS monitors?

Hi Everyone.

I wanted to ask what is the largest monitor that was made for the IIGS system? I had a monitor that I got on eBay but it didn't work right so I put it in storage. The monitor looked like the tyical small monitor that you see with most IIGS systems. What I wanted to ask is if there were bigger monitors made that worked with the IIGS' RGB monitor cable?

I'm looking to purchase another monitor for my IIGS because usiing a TV just doesn't cut it. Please elt me know so I will know what type of monitor to look for on the net.

Thanks
John

The largest official OEM monitor for the GS is the 12" (11.5" viewable) Apple RGB Monitor A2M6014.

There were several monitors back in the day that were compatible with the IIGS, but all of them required a custom cable and ranged in size from 12" to 15". You can find some of these monitors on eBay. The key is to find one that has a fairly low horizontal sync rate - 15.75kHz. Monitors in that range usually have pretty fat dot pitches too.

See this FAQ for some advice:

Work is underway to provide vintage machines like the GS with a superior interface to modern monitors without artifacts or requiring a SecondSight card.

That is great news. I hope it ends up working and being produced. I guess for now, I can just try to get the usual IIGS monitor.

Actually, I hope that method you mention might also work with the Atari ST and Amiga 1200 systems. Smile

Now that I think about it. Is there any chance that the adaper might have a S-Video port so you could hook the IIGS up to a TVs S-video IN port? That would be great too. Smile

Thanks Again for your help.

I believe the box is being designed with compatibility for several other vintage computers to broaden it's marketing appeal.

If you want S-Video now - well, now as in if you can find it - look for a Video Turtle, or an XRGB2.

The only thing I would like t

The only thing I would like to add is that Sony made some monitor/TV combos that required you to make a special cable up. These were 13 inch to 25 inch. Part of the XBR series. You could read 80 col on 25 inch. Change the colors around just like the original 12 inch one. The larger you went the less defined they were. But hey, you are not going to use text on 25 inch 12inches away from it. Have both a 13 and 25 inch XBR sony. The 25 inch need repair. I do not want to part with it.

Take Care

Hi,
Just wanted to post that they have a Sony Monitor/TV combo on EBay for sale. To use this and get 80 COLUMN clear you have to make up your own cable. Once you make the cable up It works like a real IIgs monitor.

This is what the EBay list tag or name.

Apple IIgs RGB Video Monitor Cable TV SONY KV-1311CR
