Somebody must know this. I'm looking for an MP3 player that attaches to a USB thumb drive. Although there are several USB flash drive/MP3 players out there, I remeber there was one that used a regular flash drive as the storage medium (I think you had to use their specially shaped drive) a few years back.
Does anybody know or remember an MP3 player that fits the description. For that matter, is there a hack project that someone has done to create the same thing.
I understand that there are alread car stereos that have this functionalty built in.
With large flash drives becoming so cheap I've been looking for a player that I can just attach to the drive, sort of the modern equivilent to the tape walkman.
Hello Aaron,
I think Lexar has (or had) what you are looking for. here is the link. I hope this helps

The JumpGear MP3 Player is what I'm sort of looking but have been unable to find it during a google search. Does anybody know of any other units out there that uses a USB thumb drive for MP3 storage?
It looks like Lexar doesn't make it anymore, but there are dozens of them on eBay. Many of them are "jumpdriveless," but some are priced at 99¢ plus shipping. At that price, they're quite hackable.
Sandisk used to make one for their Cruzer Micro, but they don't appear to be anymore... grrr...
This is the only one I know of. Probably not what you're looking for, but perhaps you could gut it and recase the circuit board.
Thanks for pointing this out Doc B, I just ordered one. This has a bit of hack potential, or even just used as-is it's a pretty nifty bit of kit.
Wonder how long it'll take to get from Oz all the way up to New Jersey, USA?
