Internet

I have a friend whos pc has died.. :(, I do have an older pc which I'm not using, and probably never will. So I told him he was welcome to it.. So happens both locations use the same dsl service ( sbc ) Will I be able just to hook this pc up, and just change the user info, and run. Or will I have to totally uninstall my info, and re-install. If not,, anyone no why ? Thanks

i don't see why you couldn't

i don't see why you couldn't just install the sbc software and put his user information in it.

It's built-in

There's a DSL connection program built into XP.
Just go to "Control Panel" -> "Network Connections" select "Create a new connection" under Network Tasks. This will open the setup wizard. Click "next" and you will see that the caption at the top of the window says "Network Connection Type." Then there will be a list of radio buttons below it. The default option selected is "Connect to the Internet." Leave it and click on the "next" button. The window then will have a caption titled "Getting Ready." There will be three radio buttons. The caption next to the first one will say "Choose from a list of Internet Service Providers." The caption for the second radio button will say "Set Up My Connection Manually." Select the second radio button. Then proceed to the next screen. It will have three radio buttons. The first one will say "Connect using a dial-up modem." Skip it. Go to the second one that says "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password." Select that one, the second radio button. Proceed to the next screen. It will say "Enter the name of your ISP in the following box." Enter "SBC" or something like that in the text box- it dosen't really matter. Then proceed to the next screen. There will be three fields. They are fairly self-explanatory: Username, password, and password confirm. Enter those and then proceed to the next screen. On the next screen, there will be a check box marked "Add shortcut to my desktop?" It's a good ideia to check this box- it makes things easier. Then click "Finish."
The wizard will close, and a new window will open. There should be a button marked "Connect" at the bottom. Click it. You will then be connected.
