why do my computers keep going down?

this is VERY wierd. first, my B&W G3 broke it's self when i put it back together, and even after washing the motherboard, it still wont boot, so it needs a new motherboard.

then, the backup dell I was using went down, running windows ME. it crashed fully. so I spent the last 3-4 days trying to install x/k/ubuntu, but none would install. I was able to get my breezy install CD out, and install the gui-less server version, which runs fine. so, I tried installing xubuntu-desktop package from apt-get (over the net), but it keeps running into x server errors. so, I found my windows ME CD, but then I had a revolation, why dont I install xubuntu from the alternate CD? note my dad loves windows, but not I.

then, a few days after the dell crashing, my mother's laptop, running XP home on it, crashed. I managed to boot into xubuntu, and grab some data off it. I dont have a windows XP cd, but I do have a windows 2000 CD. I asked my mother, after she played around with kubuntu for an hour, and she said she wanted 2000 on it versus kubuntu, despite me explaining kubuntu's advantages, and wine (if she needs to run this one browser.)

so, here I am, booted off the xubuntu live CD, with a linksys wifi card, and it all works.

my question is, do I give them what they want (windows)? or should I do what i want (linux) and let them warm up to something new?

also, why am I having so many damn computer/tech problems as of late? I love tech, but for the last year to 18 months, it has been very bad to me.

ok, hard drive in the laptop

ok, hard drive in the laptop just died. it's a 1 year old 60gb seagate! the original 30gb toshiba died after 3 years. this machine is only 4 years old, and yet it has really fallen apart. perhaps its just the manufacturer of the laptop (toshiba).

or chaos theory

i'm back on the dell, btw. it's slow, but it'll get the job done until I can get a new mobo for my B&W G3. Dunno why washing it didnt work. I even let it sit for 2 whole days.

gonna go to bed now. it's been a long night.
