Micron PC delayed start on power plug

I am working on a Transport ZX by micron pc and I got a bit of a headscratcher.
When I go to boot the machine, and it's plugged into the wall, it just sits there after the post (blank screen). However, as soon as I remove the power supply, and it starts to run on Battery, it starts working. It never has the problem when booting off of the battery. And it will run after the boot and charge with the power supply inserted AFTER that POST and boot part.
I have replaced the DC -> DC board where the power supply plugs in, as well as the battery board (battery plugs into it and then it goes to the logic board) and it still does it.

I don't have another logic board for this machine, and can't get one easily. So i gotta figure something out.

I had to flash the firmware up from the P-II model to the P-/// model so I can drop the Pentium 3 600Mhz CPU into it (it's on it's own daughter board)

It has something to do with the power, but I can *try* to reflash the BIOS. I will try that, but does anyone have suggestions as to what I can do?

figured it out

apparently the laptop doesn't like the Intel SpeedStep technology. Unless it is set to disabled, it hangs on that. Oh well... Does anyone know how to enable it from within windows?

well, off on another adventure

I figured out that the machine doesn't like the speedstep option. So now that I have turned it off, I am moving onto the next thing.

Whenever I boot the system, it sees the CPU as a 600Mhz Pentium !!! Mobile Processor, However, when i go into windows, it says it's a 333Mhz CPU.

The history behind these series of machines, was that there is a Pentium II and a Pentium !!! setup. Two seperate boards. I have seen the hack that if you take the Pentium II and flash it with the Pentium !!! BIOS, it will read the Pentium !!! CPUs. I succeeded in flashing the BIOS, and now it reads the Pentium !!! CPU. So, that's all good. It sees the new CPU, but windows seems to think that it is running at the 66Mhz Bus (as opposed to the 100Mhz Bus of the newer P3 models)

Is there any TRUE way to tell what the CPU speed it is running at?

Use the Intel CPU ID utility.

Use the Intel CPU ID utility.

Often times the CPU speed that Windows shows is wrong. This should tell you the correct answer.

well i got the machine fully up

I had to "unbutcher" what the government did to the sound system (they couldn't have sound working) and I used two reference systems to work from. I *think* i have enough parts from working on two of these laptops (weird, two different clients came to me with the same model, at the same time) Problem is, i need at LEAST 128MB PC-100 RAM to start, I need a PSU and a CD-ROM, a battery is optional. But I don't want to spend too much, since it will be a Pentium 2 400Mhz when I get done.

Anyone wanna buy a base unit of these?

It's a transport ZX by Micron PC

I have a 14 and a 15" screen (i have both screens) i just need to find which of them works

EDIT: this is the machine:
