Another Question on my IBM 760E laptop

kay...yep, i havn't been able to find a relpacement harddrive for my 760E ibm laptop, but, as it has been a good "freind" to me, and i saw the post about putting an adapter for IDE to CF, and was wondering if i could do that to my ibm, of course, i'd bring it to a freind of mine to get sater it, but that wouldn't be a problem. yeah, would that work, it sounds sufficient to me, i could get the 20 dollar adapter, and a really big CF card *do they make them over 1 gb?* i was hoping to get a 2gb cf card, but do they make them.??? yeah, that's all i need to know, that and some documentation so i can fix the thingy.. yeah, and i'm lookin for a site to where i can get a um.....68 pin? scuzzi hdd and put it in my dock, as that would suffice for the "docked" config, but i want to fix it up because the hdd i have in there is corrupted, and i can only use about 1/2 of it, and it's supremely annoying, because i keep getting a regristry checker popup when i start up the laptop. yepp, any ideas???

flash is a bad idea

not only will it eat through the battery like swiss chesse, they dont have a very long lifespan if there constantly been writen to, they were meant to be read more than write and NOT for a hardrive type application and as far as i know they do NOT make them in sizes over 1gb as they start having bad cell problems, which is also what you will start to have if you use the card a lot, its like bad sectors on a harddrive/

Why don't you just get a chea

Why don't you just get a cheap 2.5 inch ide hard drive off ebay for the laptop and not worry about the cf cards? You should be able to get something like a 4 gig drive for under 20 bux for the laptop. Then you can just get rid of the orginal drive.

here is a couple of examples:

OS in RAM

If you could put a version of Linux that could boot into Ramdisk (Damnsmall in particular. Based on Debian! Under 50 megs! Free!) you could install that on the flash drive and boot it. Only writing once should help its lifetime. Dunno what you could do about saving, though. You could get a PCMCIA to IDE adapter that has an IDE drive in an external enclosure and connects it to the laptop with PCMCIA.

hmmm.......they all sound like good ideas....

like the subject says, they sound like great ideas, and hopefully, i can get that 4.3 somthing gig travel star hdd. hey, i got another question now

i've been told that it will only accept 64MB of EDO ram, and that's exactly what i've got, is there any more ram in there?????/?

yepp, i think that's all, but does anyone have any documentation on the 760E series??? i'd rather get a digital copy, rather than a book copy, it's easier for me to deal with, search thru, ect....... yepp, i do believe that is it so far, oh yeah, is there any way to tell what kind of PCMCIA card slots i have??? but i have a feeling that the after-market cards wont fit in there.......hmmmm....i still ponder...

oh well, thanx for all the help, and yeah,i'm lookin for a little more *as usual* lmto, oh well, yepp thanx

1.Your User Guide is here htt

2.I think that you can use maximum of 80Mb ram (16Mb integrated + 64Mb by 2 * 32Mb SODIMM modules) or in some configurations 72Mb ( 8Mb integrated + 64Mb by 2 * 32Mb SODIMM modules)
3.You have 2 PCMCIA slots. With them you could use 1 Type III PC card or 2 Type II .
