Help with SCSI Hard Drive and Apple IIGS

I have an Apple IIGS with a 3.5 floppy drive and a 5.25 drive floppy drive, I must admit I'm very new to these machines, but I want to try and get it working with a SCSI hard drive. Today I found an old Apple II SCSI card from another IIGS, so I installed it in the other IIGS machine and put in a 100MB SCSI Hard Disk in an external SCSI case. I used my Macintosh IIci and a 800k Floppy disk to create a SCSI utilities disk form a disk image. It booted from the floppy on the IIGS and I formated the 100MB drive into four 25mb partitions. At this point it told me to restart. Then I got a message "Unable to load ProDos"

I think problem is whenever the Apple IIGS boots it tries to boot, it tries form the SCSI drive if it is connected. I want to boot from a System 6 install floppy (which is connected), I can do this without the SCSI drive connected but then it can't install it to any drive. The SCSI card is in slot 7. There is another card in the slot to the right of it (I'm guessing slot 8 since it is not slot 6, it must be some RAM/Memory card)

So my question is, how can I tell the Apple IIGS to boot from the 3.5 floppy drive which has the System 6 install disk in it. Or what else can I do to install a System on this Apple II, would it be easier (or even possible) to plug the Hard Drive into my Macintosh IIci and copy over files?

Thanks! Smile

-Steven

Update

I visited the Applefritter IRC and some friendly folks helped me boot from the floppy drive (typing in PR #5) - unfortunately when I click "Easy Install" I get a black screen with an error:

SSINTANATNPEEKLENSTR$VALASCCHR$LEFT$RIGHT$MID$NEXT WITHOUT FORSYNTAXRETURN WIT0201

Any ideas? :O

You might got to either the Asimov web site or Apple's web site and re-download the System 6 disks. Once you have them transferred to 3.5 disks try installing System 6 from these disks, hopefully your problem will be solved.

I downloaded and copied the S

I downloaded and copied the System 6 disk using my Macintosh IIci from Apple's web page. I tried another floppy and I still had no luck. This was using disk 1 of 7. I guess I can try with another disk. Also, if I try and boot form disk 2, I get an error message saying that my Hard Drive needs a driver to be put on the floppy for it to work. Weird. :/

Make sure you're using DiskDu

Make sure you're using DiskDup+ to make the disks. The IIgs can be fussy about who writes diskettes when coming from the Mac - Disk Copy sometimes doesn't work.
