Errr. Help.

I have just started serious mods to my Mac collection (and have, so far, achieved mostly piles of slag). However, I have just recieved two PowerMac G3s (I think their the beige model). I would like to know two things about them. Firstly, how far is it humanly possible to overclock them (assuming no new componeents), and secondly can the motherboards be linked to share processing power, like the Big Mac at Virginia Tech. :macos:

Distributed Processing

Your first question:
Yes, you can overclock them without buying new components (I think). But you won't want to without a proper cooling system. Or you'll end up with a nice pile of burnt silicon to go with that slag.

Your second question:

But you could only run apps designed to take advantage of distributed processing. Unforortunatley, you couldn't get a bunch of PII's(or 5200s, in this case), do distributed processing, and run Unreal or Quake.

Well, i have a 333MHz Beige powermac G3 that i was able to clock up to 385MHz without any problems (400 worked, but it crashed) usually about 50MHz is all you can really get. I really didn't notice a big difference in performance in this mac, but overclocking my Blue and White G3 to 400MHZ from 350 made a big difference. This place has directions on how to overclock a beige G3 http://drivejumper.com/ClockupG3/homepage.html. secondly, Apple has the softaware you need to build your own supercomputer, this can be found here, http://www.apple.com/acg/xgrid/. I have never actually taken the time to do it myself, but the directions for using it are pretty simple.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks, now all I need is a case big enough to hold the guts of two beige model G3s. Does anyone know where I might get hold of a cheep case from someone like Alienware?
