Please post what online computer part companies you use

I used to walk in Staples or Compusa to buy hard drives for older computers. Now it seems all you can buy is large format drives already installed in external cases...branded as "instant backup" etc.

What companies are you using online to order drives? Specifically I need to buy a drive for an iMac DV 400mhz, an eMac 700mhz and a Cube 450mhz.

By the way, what is the largest these computers can use? Is it 120GB?

Thanks.

Second NewEgg.com Add: zipzo

Second NewEgg.com
Add: zipzoomfly.com, cyberguys.com, and Other World Computing at eshop.macsales.com

Had good experiences at all but your milage may vary.

If I remember correctly drive size limits essentially went away with the introduction of HFS+.

Cheers...

I'll add DMS (datamem.com), geeks.com and smalldog.com

to OWC, zipzoomfly and newegg, all of whom I recommend.

The emac _maybe_ can use larger drives (I don't know), the others are 128GB or under. Unless of course you use Intech's ATA Hi-Cap Support Driver, then you can use big drives on all of them. Biggrin

I miss CompUSA. . . but for a walk-in. . .

I miss the CompUSA's that they took out of my town, but once in awhile Fry's will run a good sale on Seagate drives of various flavors. They do have a website too. Don't buy anything there that you might have to return, as they apparently make that process tortuous.

I second zipzoomfly.com. A

I second zipzoomfly.com.

And for cables and similar types of parts, monoprice.com is absolutely killer. Yesbuy.net is also good for some items.

Best,
Matt

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have compiled a list and my credit card is beginning to warm up.

The limits at the OS level we

The limits at the OS level went away, but there are still limits on many machines at the hardware controller level, which takes it's toll long before the OS starts to boot. Wink

awesome!

I appreciate everyone who has posted here. I found a CAT5 coupler for $3.29 which is priced at over $20 at big box electronics stores.
