Got an Epson 900G printer (B&W deal) hooked to my G$ tower running X.4. The things stars off okay and the Epson Printer Utility can see it alright. Once i select it from the list of printers (only one there), I am taken into the printer utility. I usually get only one event from the printer before it goes comatose - I can check the status, or check the printer nozzles, or clean the heads, etc. Once I do this one and only one thing, the printer goes comatose. Sometimes the power light stays on (green), but usually, it just dies and will not power on for several minutes. The only symptom of a problem on the Mac is a communication error, even if the printer has a solid green light and appears ready to print.
One transaction, then comatose.
Printer has a good working history when used on a 9.2.x machine about a year ago.
Please help.
TIA

I tried printing - when I first did a nozzle check, it ran a sheet through and needed cleaning of the heads, but when I try to send a regular page to print, the machine makes noise and moves like it wants to print and then turns off.
It seem like it needs to sit for as long as 5 minutes before it will allow me to turn it back on but that time must be while the printer is unplugged from the AC source. If turned on and not talked to by the computer, it will stay in ready mode all day long.
Ink tubs are half full for whatever that is worth...
I have the latest drivers from Epson and even reinstalled them but to no avail.
What am I missing??
I came across this, quite by accident:

Hope it helps!
...I have the benefit of having a stack of Epson ethernet cards and slipped one in the back of the printer. The same thing happens now when I try to print via ethernet.
I did make the setting change as you described in the apple thread but the behavior persists. (Thanks, though). I think the printer may be the issue rather then the Mac or its settings. Does anyone know about the internals of this infernal thing?
