VGA video output with color classic, trying to get SVGA

I have now managed to get my Color Classic working with a cube video card. I had had lots of difficulty with this, fiddling with various ID lines and trying to imitate an Apple adapter- turns out it's easy, just leave all but the video and h/v sync lines unconnected. The computer then puts out 640x480@60hz, which works (finally!). 640x480@67hz works as well. Problem is, 800x600@56hz doesn't work, despite the fact that I've had the Color Classic display in that mode before, with an LC575 m/b if I recall correctly. The screen just goes blank before it automatically switches back (i.e. it's not just a bad picture, it's no picture at all). I am able to get 800x600@56hz from the video card just fine on a different PC monitor, and like I said the CC board has handled it in the past from a different source.
Anybody venture a guess why it won't work?

24bit color on CC

I'd like to use a 24bit color LC-PDS card sending video to the CC display instead of the onboard video. Taking off the VRAM SIMMS in the LC575 mobo makes the LC-PDS card the only display available. How did you manage to wire the cube's video to the CC's analog board?
Thanks Smile

The wires to the harness need

The wires to the harness need to be cut, and extension wires connected, attached to male pins (I used the crimp-on kind from a DB-25 kit from Radio Shack). The harness wires would be a pain to re-connect, so before doing something that drastic, be sure it's really worth it. To quote from the Color Classic FAQ:

"It has been speculated that a video card's output could be connected to the appropriate video lines in the wiring harness in order to drive the internal monitor from a video card, but no one has (to our knowledge) yet tried this, and since no LC PDS cards come close to the speed of the built-in video on the 575, it seems like such an endeavour might be a waste of time."

With enough VRAM, the 575 can do 16 bit; I would consider the hassle (and, in the event the result is unsatisfactory, difficulty of undoing the harness modification) vs. the (in my mind, small) benefit of the extra color depth.

Dead_Elvis could you show us some pictures

Dead_Elvis I'd really be interested in seeing some pictures of your modification to your color classic. Could you please post some for us all to see?
