40mhz cpu in quadra 610?

has anyone taken the cpu from an 840av and used it in a lower end machine? i just happen to have both of these machines and really like the size of the 610, one of the reasons i bought it. i also just bought a monitor for it that happened to have come with an 840av. thanks in advance

Yes, but IIRC I was still limited by the 610's bus and couldn't get the full 40 MHz out of the 840av CPU.

BTW, send me a PM if you want to get rid of that 840av logic board.

Yep. Just switching chips will have the CPU from the 840 running at the 610's stock speed. You'll at least gain the 840 CPU's FPU if your 610 lacks a full 68040.

As long as you've got a good supply of oscillators, you can tweak to your heart's content.

A bit of reading, I was reminded what it was about the 610 that chipping messed up. from LEM:

Because the onboard ethernet port shares the same oscillator as the CPU, clock chipping the Centris 610 makes the internal ethernet port unusable. You can overcome this problem with a third party ethernet card.

since i have no intentions of overclocking the board, im gonna just leave the 25mhz alone hehe. Im only looking to run games that arent 3d and were made for 68k, most of which are older than the machine itself.
