Saturn Navigator is cracked..

Got it done! And it works. All I need now is to get the titlescreen opening graphic and we're set! I gotta pull out my other crack rom for it.

It has been cracked for sometime now, at least a few years.

Never seen it on asimov or any other archive. I'd like to see how it was done, as this is my first crack-job in 25 years.

Not sure if it was done by my friend DataWiz or if it was gave to me by my friend Byron on a CD with disk images. Trying to remember what I have is hard enough. DataWiz is fixing a bunch of them that will not run on the IIgs. Mainly because he bought the CFFA 3000 and a few disk images will not play on it.

The original disks, they won't start on anything greater than a II+ I believe. But once put into binaries it plays on the Platinum //e and I would guess any lesser model.

All I need to do is grab the title page screen and I'm a happy camper. But, tonight, is time to get my //e fixed up.

Re: Saturn Navigator is cracked..

I take that back, it's partly cracked, or rather dumped into .nib format that works perfectly in emulators. You can play it through to the end. And that is good enough for me!

But before I send it on its way it needs documentation. I was going to use the crap that came with my hp scanner. But I quickly found out it's just that, crap!

What's the best way to make a nice and well-presented pdf of the manual? And that means doing a searchable OCR pdf to boot! I have a scanner with the shitty and useless HP software. I'm not about to waste time dicking with it. Nor am I going to waste time learning new software only to find out I can't do anything other than use it to scan a certain style of document(!).. I'm not opposed to purchasing new software if it's up to the task.

I also have these documents I'd like to scan in but basically have 0-skill and 0-knowhow and 0-software when it comes to doing this.

Also where is the best place to post stuff like this, aside from asimov. Asimov is too big and things will undoubtedly get lost in the cracks and disbursed all over the place. Or, rather, what is a decent premier site to post to?

This is 1/1000th of a recent acquisition and personal collection.
I have among the stash, a bunch of development packages for the likes of the Graphics Tablet and Video Overlay card. And much original documentation that I know isn't around anywhere.

A couple of things. I like Read Iris software for OCR functions, but I'm several years out of date with my version knowledge, so there could be a better one, but I see they still publish updated versions.

I've converted some ancient documents into very nice PDF's, but if they're long, it's laborious. Still, they are searchable and look great on my Kindle! I basically recreated them in Appleworks 6, (in OS 10.4) and printed them to PDF. As I indicated, they look and work great across platforms.

Secondly, if you get any spare Video Overlay Cards that you want to part with, send me a PM.

Re: Saturn Navigator is cracked..

I'm looking into another large estate sale, I expect this to have Apple 2 series stuff in it. Perhaps there will be duplicates and triplicates of what I have already.

I have one verified working overlay card, and that is mine, it isn't going anyplace. The 2 other overlay cards - 1 of them is quite thoroughly damaged and I suspect internal shorts or rips in the vias. The other one has 1 or 2 damaged parts, these are like custom hybrid inductors (with a few other parts, in a ceramic casing. I don't know the availability of these two parts. They could be generic enough (back in the day), but getting them today?? Probably need to swap them from a donor card.

The overlay cards I believe were designed in 1985 and went on the market in 1986 if I'm not mistaken. Apple, by then, had less efficient engineers and had to rely on more parts to get the job done. But in doing so, they had to pack those parts into a smaller space, hence the hybrid inductors.. And proliferation of more and more custom parts in general.

Regarding making pdf's .. I was beginning to look into Adobe Acrobat X pro. Does anyone have thoughts or comments on it? It may be "too much" though..
