A LOT of Macs.

This eBay listing had me wanting to build an Apple warehouse in my backyard.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

You could construct a warehouse from the corpses of all those computers. You just know there's some juicy collectibles hidden in all of those late model //e's. They had to be from schools.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

A lot of computers with stuff written with magic marker, school stickers and probably some branded or etched in school markings. Can't make out a lot of detail. Lots of chopped off cables. Most of the computers there sell for $50 on eBay when they're in good cosmetic condition. A lot of these aren't. I'm guessing he'll get zero bids.

I'm not sure I'd even pay for something like that. Look at all that e-waste you'd have to pay to dispose of.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

the alternate calculation:
15 k for the stuff
1 k for a used seafreightcontainer
0,5 k for transport
and 18 squareyards in the backyard and at least 6 months time to check out all that stuff
if you calculate only the half of the stuff to be in working condition and with all the
damaged stuff in between you´d be lucky if you get after all 10k out of the sales .....
and the guy got his profit out that sale .....

Re: A LOT of Macs.

It's what I've always suspected; all the missing full page displays and dual page displays for Macs (there should be one for every card being sold on the fleaBay) can be found at ONE place...

Yeah, I don't think that he'll get any bids either, but it's difficult to see just what is there. He could have done a simple count on the CPU's by model name. That might have helped the sale.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

I just tried a count on the pictures and came out with this:
IIe 6 + 5 + 5 + 11 = 27
Duodrives 10
IIGS 6 + 5 + 2 + 22 = 35
IIGS Monitors 14
Imagewriter 5 + 12 = 17
Mac IISE 12
IILC 4
at the other monitors i stoped counting after 60 because of the wrapped ones .....
so the count on the computers turned up with something about 80 to 90 ....
so I guess the description of 150 to be a little "optimistic"

and a gag on this tooo is that he´s allready selling some of them in other auctions ???
i guess that ebay wouldn´t agree to this behavior, cause at the end there will be less of them than in the pictures
cause of those sold beside in single auctions, not to talk about the offers to losing bidders......
a IIGS,
a IIe,
a MacSE
a Mac Pizza
a pile of external 5,25 drives
a pile of 3,5 drives for example ....
so a part of the stuff is allready passing right out of the backdoor and nobody finds out ???

look at his other offers and see what´s outside of the log-cabin....

He's going to pay someone $15,000 to take all that off his hands? Is that how that works? There's an Apple I board in there somewhere. I'm sure of it.

More and more I'm seeing ebay as sort of a garbage dump.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

might be, but it´s rather more related to age and economic development.....
the owners of the systems die... and the people that get in touch of the ownership don´t have any kind of relation
to the stuff..... instead of preserving the heritage - the only aim is to make some quick dollars....
quite similar is the behavior of the what i call "grave-yard-diggers", which buy the estates from banks that overtook
estates out of the economic-credit-desaster and the ruined financial market....
it seems to me that this lot is just the result of such a similar incidence.....
and the fact that the guy offers the lot at the one side and besides sells items out of that lot "out from the backdoor" in other auctions
hoping that no bidder recognizes this by proving the alternating offers of the seller indicates much about the character
that stands behind the offer.... it reminds me to the campaign in the 70´s with Nixon and the ads claiming:
"would you buy a used car from this man ?"..... the end of that story is well known and used as story for several movies....

No Bids. No Offers.
I wonder what they'll do now?

Re: A LOT of Macs.

hello steve,
probably some bidder read this thread and found out, what i discovered and probably such a bidder does not like to be betrayed....
nobody probably likes to pay for the entire package while in the meantime parts of the package are sold out through the backdoor....
would you pay for a complete car while somebody is selling the wheels and the seats out the backdoor ? i would not - for sure....

Re: A LOT of Macs.

I don't really think it's fair to say that

How do you know those other items were taken from what was shown in the pictures and he didn't separate it out? With that many it's quite likely he grabbed a few to sell separately and took pictures of what was left to try to sell as a lot.

The dates on the individual pictures I looked at were earlier than the picture of the lot, and most (all?) were listed before the lot. There's a good picture of most of the SEs, and none of them look like (to me) the picture of the SE that sold individually. The dirt/marks are different and there's no numbers on it as there are with the others. I find it quite unlikely that he dug to the back for one to sell separately. I could be wrong, but it does not look to me like he's doing as you described.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

Just take a look at the IIGS he offered.... it´s just a "cutout" of the picture directly taken from the pile !
the IIGS taken from this pile:

or the keyboards

I would not publish such accuses without basical evidence....

this argue is anyhow now past... it seems that ebay trapped him because of the shutdown of those offers.... as i guessed its seeningly a offense against the ebay-regulations.....

Re: A LOT of Macs.

I'll be honest, I don't see the similarities you see, they look different to me. Maybe I just can't spot this as well as you, or just too trusting. The keyboard is missing keys, where I don't see any like that in any of the pictures (I don't see any keyboards in picture 8), the IIgs is in a different setting, the pictures are too blurry to really compare and figure out if it's the same IIgs, and I'm not sure what you mean with the cutout comment.

eBay did not pull the listing, it ended, and he relisted it (for $1000 more!)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261006455371

The only reason I kind of care about this, is it's not too far from me. The price is way too much in my opinion, with all those extra monitors and the cut cords, he might have to pay someone to take it. But I have considered stopping to see what all is there, it'd be quite the treasure hunt, and who knows, there might be something really neat in there soewhere, looking at picture 8 trying to find the keyboards you referred to, I found several more systems I didn't see before hiding away in the back. Unfortunately, it looks like everything is pretty standard, nothing jumps out at me.

If he is doing as you describe, then, yes, that's quite concerning. If I showed up to pick it up and several were missing I'd certainly be upset.

Re: A LOT of Macs.

thats right... but the IIe with duodisk isn´t listed anymore and the IIGS isn´t listed anymore too....
same to the other mac that he offered....
he restricted only to the one mac and several drives without cut cords.....
and thereafter it´s seemingly only restricted to the entire bulk itself....
nevertheless its very clear that the entire bulk is from somebody who had good relation with a public school,
the took part in the apple schoolplan and you won´t find gold in the pile....
just plenty work and hard calculation due to the fact that the stuff has been treated badly....and if you go along the pictures...
well where are the keyboards and the mice for the IIGS systems ? where are the ads for the mac´s ?
just count out the pictures and calculate worktime and saleprices possible to the stuff in that condition.....
and it will probably turn out that you might be lucky if after sales you turn back with 10.000 to 12.000 bucks...
so probably you end up with paying 3000 bucks for beeing kept off the street for 6 months .....
but at least you cleaned up the estate for the guy if he sells out the rest of his offers....
and thats a lot of stuff to clean away if you´ve looked at the other offers....
