Looking for Hardcore Computist Disks And Softside Disks Complete ofcourse.

Hello... Does anyone know where I can go to find the complete set of Hardcore Computist DIsks OR Softside Disks? I am looking to add these titles to my ever growing collection.

Thankyou

Patrick.

The Computist disks are available here: http://computist.applearchives.com/Disk-1.html for download one at time or I can e-mail you a zipped copy of these disks that I downloaded a while back.

Thanks for the reply ! But what I have noticed is this , why are all the files corrupt when booting them up? They just drop in monitor right away? Is this normal , to where there is no DOS installed on these disks? And that it possibly needs another program to load from?

Thanks...

Patrick.

Re: Looking for Hardcore Computist Disks And Softside Disks ...

Update! I found a site that sells the full download of Softdisk collection! But what I have found is that I am not able to load any of them into Applewin , for it says that the file is not valid :O( 140k files! I have used Image burn and other programs to gain access to the files , and what I also noticed was it was titled in Chinese or Korean! If anyone knows any other site that has the complete collection of Softdisk disk images , that would be awesome.

I think I went to Syndicate for the download of the above mentioned. Hopefully I am just doing something wrong , would hate to think that
they sell this for $40.00 and one get's ripped off .

I was checking the copies I downloaded of the Computist disks. There are one or two that won't boot, but you can boot another disk and switch them out to see what is on the non-booting ones. I tossed the first disk image, HC1-2.dsk because even using the menu program from another disk it wouldn't run. So far the rest seem okay.

Well Syndicome's site does offer a download for cost , but when I got all of it , it was in Korean or Chinese! Please none of the images for some reason would run in Applewin? Crazy . I am happy I have all the Hardcore Computists Scanned Magazines though , for that I am greatfull to have . And also the limited Core magazine! But if you can help out with the the Softdisk magazine problems that would be great.

ALSO! I know I have said this in the past before , but this year comming up , I have a ton of stuff to sell! I have carefully packaged up over 700 5 1/4 Floppies ! Losts of original and ofcourse lots of copied software , but from games , utilities , word proc. programs , etc ..... I figure someone else would like to have them and go through them and possibly add something to ftp.apple.asimov.net 's site or to someone's personal collection!

Let me know and this would be a cash deal ofcourse and remember it is going to be heavy to ship , but nothing FedX or USPS can't handle!

I'd love to buy those disks from you if I could, but right now money is tight and I have no idea when things will improve. You might advertise them in the market place here and also at comp.sys.apple2.marketplace.

You still have those disks? I was wondering what happened. We were discussing a transaction back in 2009, then nothing happened.

Hello Patrick,

just a reminder: the normal cause for getting strange characters from Apple-Disks results from the fact that there is conflict with the char/ISO table. Please remember that old Appletext-files only had 7 bit decoding because they had only upper case. I have often recognized when Text-Files have been transferred from Apple II to IBM without correct conversion utilites - the output was "rather strange" at the IBM......

In old days i therefor often transfered the textfiles with X-Modem or Y-Modem to the IBM-machines instead of normal conversion programs.... that had the advantage that ASCII keeps always ASCII and the textfiles then saved really represented the content of the buffer....

This problem may also affect to ols Apple-Disks moved to .DSK format because there the Text-files still on the Disk have been kept in the upper-case 7 Bit-code....and i´m not sure that emulators like Applewin handle this correct....
in correct handling that Text-files must be converted before being displayed on the IBM-Machines with 8-bit Table....

this is a mostly forgotten aspect.....
sincerely speedyG
