Ok,
I am trying to remember which copy program allows you to copy from a drive on a controller in slot 5 to a controller in slot 6.
What I am trying to do is use my CFFA card (slot 5) to copy an image to a real diskette in slot 6. I assume I just use a standard copy program that supports two controllers.
The problem is my ever trusty Copy II plus version I have doesn't.
So the question is from all the images on asimov... which program will let me do this.
Thanks,
Corey
For what you're doing, dealing with a disk image, the standard copy programs like the ProDOS8 System Utilities or Copy II+ won't work. If the disk image was made with Shrinkit, then you want Shrinkit to decompress it. Same same the other compression software. Most of the Apple II software on the various internet sites is meant to be done with the PC transfer set-up, which always seemed whacko to me. I think you need to read up on this.
Maybe we can help with a little more precision in your question. Do you have a CFFA3000, or do you have a CFFA? Are the "images" you have actually .dsk files, or are they mounted as virtual floppies in the CFFA3000?
Assuming you really have a CFFA3000 and have mounted .dsk images into virtual drive 5, then the ProDOS system utilities is exactly what you'd want to use. You can specify source and destination volumes.
David,
ProDOS8 Utilities can uncompress a .dsk file to a 5.25" floppy?
mutant_pie,
.dsk images aren't compressed. If you look at them either on a Mac or PC they are typically 143k images, which is a standard 5.25 disk image, and the same size as a standard Apple II 5.25 disk. As long as Corey986 is using a CFFA3000 and has the image mounted to slot 5, drive 1 then any standard PRODOS utility program can copy it for him to the real disk in slot 6.
Well I tried a prodos 1.1 disk utility and it won't let me copy between devices (slot 5 and slot 6). I can't run much newer that that version because I have a II plus.
any advise???
The disk image I used:
Apple's ProDOS System Utilities - Filer v1.1.dsk
looks like copying a volume will allow specification of both slot and drive for source and destination. Are you saying that didn't work for you?
It says it has to be the same device.
Are you trying to copy a 5.25 image to a real disk or are you trying to copy something that is a different size? Also I don't think you ever told us if it is one of the earlier CFFA cards you have or the CFFA3000, that will make a big difference.
I'm trying to copy a mounted 5.25 image in the CFFA to a floppy. Basically recreating the disk.
Maybe I'm doing this wrong. What have people done in the past to make a real disk for something.
Thanks,
Corey
What I used, and still do, is ADTPro. Though I have used the CFFA3000 to copy from a real disk to virtual disk. Let me try making a real disk from an image and I'll report back on my success.
Finally solved this one!!!!! I can use my CFFA3000 to create physical floppy disks.
I guess I don't have to worry about using ADT (dos 3.3 because I can't run ProDos).
Anyway, DiskMuncher 9 (From Azimov FTP) correctly supports copying between controllers.
So now I can put an image on a USB key, plug it into my usb extension cable (so I don't have to keep opening up the case) and put the image on the CFFA disk 2 and copy to my Disk II controller disk 1 in a different slot.
Perfect. I can make Disks pretty quickly now.
Now to find a working copy of Sublogic Flight Simulator that can work on the CFFA and I'll be set
Cheers,
Corey
Congratulations on getting things working with your CFFA3000! As far as a copy of Flight Simulator, whether you mean FS1 or FS2, here's a link to the Flight Simulator folder at Asimov. You'll find Flight Simulator 1 and 2 there along with all the scenery disks, and documentation, for Flight Simulator 2: ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/games/simulation/flight_simulator/
