//c plus disk transfer

Hi there,
After looking around for quite a while, I finally got a clean, good looking (and working) //c plus. I also have: a ProDOS system disk on 3.5'', a Copy//plus disk on 3.5'', ADTpro and enough empty disks to last a lifetime - as well as two external 5.25 disk drives (Unidisk, //c drive).

My question: What is the best configuration for the // c plus? If, for example, I wanted to run a couple of games or AppleWorks on that machine, would I have to find 3.5'' disk images and transfer them via ADTpro? Or is it possible to transfer 5,25'' disk to the 3,5'' medium - as long as both disks are ProDOS format, copying the individual files should be no problem at all. But what about games on 5.25''?

And, finally, what about the external drive. On my "old" //c, booting PR#7 works just fine (although not in all cases). Does that mean I can simply start the games on the //c plus from my Unidisk 5,25'' - as long as boot the system with as 3.5'' ProDOS disk in the internal drive first?

Sorry for asking these rather dumb questions, but until now I have successfully avoided 3.5'' disks on my Apple IIs.

Re: //c plus disk transfer

Hello theart02,
at the moment there is another running task that also is related in specific way to this questions:
http://www.applefritter.com/content/swapping-your-drives-disk-controller
at the later part at the current moment a user is testing a mod for the IIc that permits switching of drives
at the IIc ( which would permit booting from external drive )
but that task isn´t complete yet and up to the moment only one model is tested.
Depending to the model you have i might add later another update if i get the related pictures and
can determine the kind of model you have.... so it might be of interest keeping track of that thread....

to the other bunch of questions i´ll pass over the torch to the other members....

quite a lot of questions have been answered in previous threads ( finding them by using the search function
in the upper right corner of the page ) and related to the Games it´s recommended to also view previous
threads related to copy protection..... a huge bunch of games have been distributed with copy protection
and also a bunch of images uploaded previosly to various sites have unusable diskimages because the
copy-protection shemas haven´t been removed before making the image....

sincerely speedyG

Hook up a 5-1/4" drive to the back, and it'll show up as slot 6, drive 1. If you have a 5-1/4" game... just put it in the drive and PR#6.

Or is it possible to transfer 5,25'' disk to the 3,5'' medium - as long as both disks are ProDOS format, copying the individual files should be no problem at all. But what about games on 5.25''?

Not really. Games will typically be running under DOS, and they will expect the 5-1/4" hardware.

The 3-1/2" disk is slot #5, and 5-1/4" is slot #6. You can PR# either of them.

Re: //c plus disk transfer

Thanks! Now that the //c plus has finally arrived, some things have sorted themselves out. Just one more question: Where can I find 3.5 disk images? Asimov surely has a few for the GS , but apart from the system disks, I can't find much ...
The //c plus was short-lived, but there should be a few images out there ...

Re: //c plus disk transfer

So, now that I finally got around to playing with my IIc plus, I can see that some of my earlier questions in the thread have indeed been ... let's say ... unnecessary Wink
However, I am still looking for 3.5 disk images for this machine - apart from the ones posted earlier, I only found a version of "Prince of Persia" in the 800k version. But if I remember correctly, there have been several IIgs games with an "IIc plus" option...
Or am I mistaken?
