MacAlly USB hubs and OS 8.5

I have a MacAlly USB 7-port hub. It is one of those jobs with the changeable colored shells. I am trying to use this with a Rev A iMac that is running 8.5. If I am in 8.6 or higher, the hub works. Right now, it is unrecognized by 8.5 and I want it to be. What am I missing to make the hub work? What is different in the two versions of 8 that make the difference?

I have one too!

I have the same problem, but after I updated to 8.6 and it worked. I think it came out after OS 8.6 , and I know that 8.5 doesn't support all the hubs that are out there. I updated to 8.6 but the system became very unstable. After I reloaded the OS, it was stable but the hub doesn't work, it is also the same with the USB - SCSI and Serial adapter. I upgraded to OS 8.6 and it became unstable , so i said the heck with it and I loaded up OS 9 and now I am happy that it is stable and the USB Hub/Adapter works. plus it was faster in response time. In my opinion. UPGRADE to OS 9! I have never looked back. BTW you can throw OS X on it even if you only have 64MB's of ram. I have done it! but it's Slooooow!

8.6 probably has much updated

8.6 probably has much updated USB drivers. Every USB device I look at seems to want 8.6+, so I'll bet Apple added in a whole bunch of support. 9, of course, is much better. I've got a cheap USB mouse that OS X won't use, but 9 likes just fine. Then, I've also got a PS/2 adaptor that 9 won't use but 10 will... Blum 3

Hacking 8.6

I like certain features of 8.5, like the motherboard floppy hack. Does anyone know how to add these drivers from 8.6 to 8.5 or add the floppy driver to 8.6? I need to maintain the floppy hack for my current project and can go as high as 9.2.2 if I can keep it. I have played around with this for awhile, but am kinda stumped.
