Sources for LEGAL/free OS X Server 1.x Software?

Just installed OS X Server 1.2 on a spare Power Mac. Haven't seen this OS running since I installed it on a Power Mac back in '99/00 when it first came out. It's amazing how much better 1.2 is than 1.0/1.1 -- and it's amazing how easy it is to use now that I have a few years of OS X 10.x under my belt! I remember that I originally found Server 1.x so confusing, and now it seems to quaint...

Anyway, I've been googling for extra software to use with this. I seem to remember quite a bit of it still on the internet not too long ago. But aside from a couple of developer apps and Web serving components, I've only come across a handful of random apps - a version of LaunchBar, a version of ToyViewer, and a performance monitoring utility.

I've googled for nextstep/openstep software, but from what I can tell some sort of modification has to be redone by the developer to make such software run on OS X Server 1.x.

So anyone have any idea where I could get free or otherwise LEGAL software for OS X Server 1.x?

Thanks!

Matt

http://rhapsody-project.tk.

http://rhapsody-project.tk.

The forums have info on what gpl apps will compile plus links to lots of software.

ftp.omniweb.com has the applications they developed for X.

There is an X Server (X11) for it as well, it's called MaX. The forums of the Rhapsody project have links to tonnes of stuff, worth checking out.

Thanks for the tip, Remiel

... I already got MaX but haven't had a chance to install it yet. Also, it seems that the only apps I can get work on my OS X Server setup are ones that have package installers. Anything else I dl via my main OS X Panther machine are reported as damaged/currupted when I transfer them onto the 7300. It's either because I'm burning CDs (to transfer the sw) in HFS/HFS+ format, or because my main machine munges them when it unpacks them.

I've tried to get openup for OS X Server onto my 7300 so I can unpack the archived files there, but I can't find Openup in package format, so I've got a catch-22.

Anyway, I will check out the Rhapsody sw site.

Best,
Matt

Some package files and app fi

Some package files and app files get corrupt on other platforms if not compressed. I had this problem with Mac OS 9 when getting files for my G3 Server.

I found openup and I compiled it. One of the old servers around has a project file for it that you just double-lcik and compile. It gives one error but compiles fine. I will try and dig up that ftp server address.
