Well it's not that easy.
If you have a very late Apple II and a very early II+, the only difference was the logo, ROMs and serial number. For example I have a high 60k serial number Apple II and a low 5000's serial number II+ that are basically the same machine. This is not the case for most Apple II. In fact the early Apple II if they still have the original case isn't plastic and has no vents. There were also changes to the plastic case in the Apple II over time. I'm not sure if this is due to the tooling wearing down and being replaced or if they were intentional.
