Classic IDE for Apple II

I recently placed a preorder for one of these cards. The batch is estimated to ship next October. My IIGS has been lacking a decent hard drive until now. I have the SD Disk II that can emulate hard drive images too but it's not very speedy, so I thought I'd give Classic IDE a go now that they have a new batch coming up.

Has anyone here one of these cards?

It just so happens that I have two of these sitting
in storage that I have yet to have a chance to use.

When I finally get a chance to do so I will try to place a report up here.

Re: Classic IDE for Apple II

I bought one of these from the first run, and used it a while in my platinum //e before replacing it with a CFFA3K. Among other things, the CFFA allows one to use .po or .2MG files as "partitions" on the flash card, which makes it easy to move volumes back and forth between emulated and real environments. The Classic IDE creates an Apple partition map directly on the CF card (and you still need a separate IDE->CF adapter), meaning you need to use Ciderpress to get data on and off the card on modern hardware.

The card worked well enough in the //e, but had problems when I put it in a II plus. Hitting crtl-reset at the Bitsy Bye screen when booted from ProDOS 8 2.4.1 is guaranteed to get ProDOS in a state where the only escape is a power cycle (The file list turns into a string of @@@@ symbols). It would work ok as long as one avoided reset. It would also occasionally fail to boot at powerup, either hanging at a corrupted boot logo or crashing into the monitor. When this happened I could usually get to it to boot on the second or third attempt. This weekend I fired up the II+ and found the card would no longer boot at all no matter what I did. At first I thought the II+ itself was having issues, but when I tried the card in the //e I found it will not boot there either. Meanwhile the II+ works just fine when booted from floppies. Not sure what happened, but the card is now toast.

I have two of the ClassicIDE cards, and one CFFA 1.2 card. Does the CFFA 1.2 card work on a II Plus system?

Has anyone succeeded in

Has anyone succeeded in getting the HFS partitions to work on the Classic IDE? I created the HFS partition on CiderPress as per the instructions supplied but my IIGS only sees the two 32 MB partitions.
