Hi everyone-

This is my first post at the forum and I am not an electronics professional so please forgive any mistakes...

I am currently renovating my Apple III (s/n 19971), and I want to choose the best PSU option for my US machine in Europe ...

The subject of 110V-to-230V conversions was already discussed in different threads for Apple IIs, but I would love to know what are your thoughts of using 230/110V tranformers with US/Canadian/Japanese computers instead... and if somebody actually tested changing 115/230V setting at Apple III's Astec AA11190.

First, what is in your opinion the best (read safest) solution for such a vintage PSU: to change the setting at its board (see below) or to use one of the 230/110V autotransformers such as these:
https://sklep.toroidy.pl/pl/p/ATSS0400-Autotransformator-230110V-400VA-ob.met-2gn/515g
http://telto.nazwa.pl/sklep/product_info.php?cPath=72_26&products_id=3425
(Sorry all the sites are in Polish but you can use Google Translate)

The second option which I mentioned is to reconnect wiring and change a fuse at Apple III's AA11190. From what I understand, with this PSU only the single wire at the board should be reconnected from 115V to 230V pin, and the 2.75A fuse needs to be changed to 2.5A/250 V one.

Please confirm me on this; I really don't want to burn my power supply...

Thanks!

Hi Jerzy,

The switch of the power supply to 230v worked fine for me. There is a few pictures and a nice write up here at this link for another one that has been converted to 230v by Jason.

Hi Rob-

Thanks a lot for your confirmation and posting the link to Jason's website Smile It made a great reading!
